I don't like using explosives because of friendly fire.
I tend to stick to the Master Rapier/Master Rapier Thrust, Idunn-FF, Thunder Bow XD, Mirage 15 WR, the Gungnir, and now the Monster-S, which someone just taught me fires 3 lasers for 18k damage.
The Ixion-type guns aren't very useful because you can't aim them properly while moving or in the air. They also don't do enough damage to justify using them over an Idunn or Thunder Bow.
Wing Diver's an aggressive character. Leap in, attack, leap out. It can play passive, too, with sniper rifles, but an aggressive, close or mid-range playstyle is typically best for most things. The Idunn-FF is basically a god tier assault rifle.
I tend not to use my energy to fly. There are occasions when I need to, but I typically use my wings to bunny hop instead.
The trick to bunny hopping is to reach enough speed that you continue to ascend a little after you let go of the space bar. This will let you regenerate more energy and help you manage it better.
Lasers are energy efficient, but they have low DPS. If you're carrying a high-cost weapon, they can be useful for helping you manage your energy, but generally the Idunns are better.
Most weapons can be useful at some point in the game but 90% of the time you want your best Idunn variant and a sniper rifle unless you're sure you don't need a sniper, in which case you can bring two Idunns.
Learn to manage your energy. Running out of energy at the wrong time, especially on higher difficulties, will be certain death. The bunny hop alrerady mentioned is a good idea.
Any weapon with 1/1 ammo will drain straight from your energy and is probably terrible. There are situational exceptions, such as the Monster-S being massively useful for taking down carriers quickly (and before they can drop too many bugs).
Do pick up boxes to help your teammates. Don't only pick up boxes. Don't ignore your teammates to pick up boxes. Don't ignore your teammates, fly onto a roof and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ die where your teammates can't help you. Also unless your teammates are also wing divers they probably need HP boxes more than you.
Crowd control is important as any character; as wing diver your Idunn will stun enemies for a second-ish, so using it to sweep crowds of bugs can slow them down and buy a little time for regenning energy or keeping yourself from being swarmed.
Speaking of, don't get swarmed. Projectiles stun you in place; spider webs and UFO lasers are especially dangerous and annoying in that regard. It's sometimes more important to pick off small clusters of spiders or UFOs than it is to shoot down carriers or hectors.
Thunder Snipers and similar weapons can, and will, aggro large groups of enemies. Don't bring them to maps like Massive Mobilisation where you want to pick off groups of enemies one by one. This especially matters when playing solo, because you won't have teammates to help fix your screw-ups.
A.I. makes great bait. Human teammates also make great bait, but they don't appreciate it.
If you don't have bait, and aggro'd more than you can chew, try to dodge through buildings. Ants and Spiders get really bogged down crawling along buildings while you can fly through them with ease. It can buy you time to land and recharge energy/reload weapons without being harassed.
If all else fails, then you need more armor and/or bigger guns.
Also, the Idunn is useful in caverns because it bounces off walls and through gaps between corpses. You can use this to "bend" the attack around a corner, hitting enemies without exposing yourself. Best paired with a second Idunn, so that you can swap between them when one runs out of charge.
Dual idunns are extremely energy efficient. If you think you are gonna have to fly around a lot to survive, they're the weapons to use. Thunder bow works great in tunnels. Close range weapons are great as a backup or if you can get close to a high hp target without blowing up.
Thanks for the tips, though!
They're viable. It's just that 3.5k damage on the RZR isn't very much considering how much energy it costs, and the other weapons will usually be as effective or more effective in more situations.
It simply can't compete with the UMAZ's five round capacity and rate of fire.
They can be useful if your team's strategy requires you to stand back.
Reflectron Lasers: Caves. Actually, if a weapon bounces around in general, its meant for cave use.
Plasma and Grenades and Pandoras: Bombardment. Fly past a mob or region, set a few shots loose, and keep going to recharge your batteries when you are on the other side.
Laser Chainsaws: Agressive flying mob management. You're welcome.
Extended Flight: Its kind of like aerial bunny hopping. Instead of holding your Space (or left trigger, I wont judge), tap it only when you start descending. Practice so you can keep a good, semi-constant fly height; its a pretty fast means of dodging shots and travel, second only to a Fencer Javelin-cancel.
Now, all that cliche out of the way, I play Wing Diver in an aggressive way. I play with a friend/friends, so I'm not the only one being targeted.
For my first weapon, I use either the MX Rapier which is the best one I have so far, or an Idunn that I don't remember the specific name of. The Rapier is great for taking on multiple "infantry" targets up close without draining your Energy but there's a solid cooldown keeping you out of the action for a little. The Idunn is mainly for multiple enemies at a range, so it all depends on Playstyle.
For my second weapon, it depends on the situation. I have been using the Grom SS for things like Nests and enemies up to Hectors. Jump in, fire your mag until nexts are destroyed. And enemies popping out won't trouble you because the Grom just kills them. Try to avoid reloading until you're out of the frying pan.
The Raijin Sniper for things like ships (where your friends come in to cover you, unless they have the better weaponry).
Plasma Canons for fun but they can be useful for crowd control. But beware the drain.
For Air Units... can be tricky. The Mirage 15 (best I have so far) is good for light air units. But if you have a Fencer friend who can target multiple enemies, then the Raijin comes back into play for red enemies.
That's all I can really say. Just have fun, test weaponry on early levels, fine tune your loadout and enjoy yourself.
where can I learn necromancy skills like yours?
I use RZR launcher for crowds and green ants.
Laser lace Zigma for short-med , cause it costs almost nothing to reload compared to the dmg you have from it(5000) x i think 10shots
The last laser rifle(2nd column) is also ok.
Heavens gate d10 for lined enemies. Make them run after u then throw it and done.
To be continued...
Im hungry rightnow lol
