Only the skytrap wire variant is basically usable because it's longer. The description lies and it doesn't do damage over time or anything. Instead, each enemy it connects to take damage each time it connects to something, so the longer the wire the more potential damage. You wanna use it by firing it overhead of crowds.
This may sound retarded but I usually free myself from hunts through turrets, which you can still place and activate even when the enemy holds you. Problem is, if you already bring with yourself a limpet gun type, the turrets would take the second slot, leaving you stuck only with that and a vehicle (which is not much of an issue IF you don't care about buffs or call for support weapons).
With that aside I'm in the same boat as you, I really love the air raider class, but when the enemy grabs you, it's over. :/
Instead of limpet gun, bring limpet splendor. You'll free yourself with minimal damage. The blast radius on limpet sniper is also very low and will work without friendly damage most of the time.
There's a surprising amount of things you can survive freeing yourself with. I've struck myself with a Tempest missile and taken no damage due to the brief invulnerability you get once freed, but actually good candidates are thing like whale strikes.
I'm kinda bad with splendor or rather, I do seems to deal very low damage than the limpet gun (at least when aiming to hectors I get that feel, although it could be just a placebo).
Now THAT's a surprise. I mean, for real? And here I thought that doing so would be a complete suicide. It's awesome though, because makes things more funny. XD
Oh I see your point, due to the ricochet effect they could be extremely useful indoor. This could be good since I want to farm armor and people suggested to do the golden darkness mission.
Aside that yeah, it's just that I end up attaccking them with it while waiting for a vehicle drop.
(also great for dash-canceling)
