I cant seem to figure out how to get the god darn cheats working in mafia! God darn it

I managed to have "municak" working, somewhat, kind of shot 4-5 shots without reloading with sawoff shotgun. "krefjezivot" refilled my health, but seems to be only usable once per section of the game. But never got the console [~], no trainer worked. Love the game story, but fights are just unfair.

I can't open the console either. Whats up? Is the steam version different than retail?
