Mafia 2 vs Mafia 1

I played the original Mafia way back when I was alot younger. Just finished Mafia 2 and I thought it was a good game but not on the same level as Mafia 1.

Is it just me or was the storyline in number 1 more immersive and interesting or am I just thinking with nostalgia. I just felt more attached to the main character in Mafia 1 then in Mafia 2. If anything I liked Joe more than the character that I played. I wish they had done "Joe's Adventure" a bit more justice by fleshing it out a bit more with cutsences etc.

I played both games maybe a year ago. I preferred Mafia 1 over Mafia 2.

They're both nice in their own perspective and story line. You just have a nostalgic fever. Like i do aswell :3

I thought that the story in 2 was better but the first one was more complete and fully fleshed out. This is of course ignoring the improved controls and graphics in the second game.

its not nostalgia, mafia 2 will play up now b/c one has become so dated, but 2 simply isn't a great game, & mafia 1 was.

I played the PS2 version at the time Mafia came out, and that was a crappy port. Still loved it though, heard good stories about the pc version.

As someone who has played both games for the first time in order over the last week I've got to say Mafia 2. The original was probably impressive for it's time but I must say that it hasn't aged very well. Both have good stories but I think both force you to go through too much minutia and driving back and forth. At least in Mafia 2 the scenery looks amazing.

The one thing I liked more about Mafia was Free Ride and Free Ride Extreme with all of those cool cars. Yeah, the Free Ride mod for Mafia 2 was cool, but Free Ride Extreme was the best.

Mafia 2 is a better game experience. There's fewer dead ends and places to get hung up. But Mafia 1, although it hasn't aged well, although it has that crazy racetrack, and although a lot of the driving is underpowered... it sets the standard. The characters are tremendous. The city is still great. Mafia 1, when it worked, was pure gaming fun. There are enough good parts to overcome the bad parts, especially some peculiar scripted events. Mafia 2 fixes a lot of that, but it also loses some of the fun of playing M1. Both are awesome games, though.

good thread. I Loved Mafia 1, but I haven't played Mafia 2 yet, because I don't have the hardware for it. I'm really afraid that if it's not as good as Mafia 1.

mafia 1 is much better than the second game. A remake would be great.
