i cannot start game. information about game pop up, i choose to start game. noothing happent. Whats wrong?

It's ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up on Steam. I've had the original CD of the game game for a long time and never had any problems, only the Steam version wouldn't start after download. But the original did just publisher laziness, no testing but wham they throw it in the store and cough up the money.

For Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and i have Win11 the solution is:

1) Edit game settings by launcher and save it.

2) Run the command line prompt as an administrator¹ and copy&paste the following:

For Windows x64:

REG COPY "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Illusion Softworks\Mafia" "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Illusion Softworks\Mafia" /s /f

For Windows x86
REG COPY "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Illusion Softworks\Mafia" "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Illusion Softworks\Mafia" /s /f

3) Press Enter, the command line should write The operation was completed successfully.

4) Run the game, cry from nostalgia.

5) You are gorgeous!

¹ How to start the Command Prompt (cmd.exe) as an administrator: in the startup menu in the search box type: "command line" or "cmd" click right mouse button on search result and select "Run as administrator" in the context menu.
