This or the definitive edition?

Hey guys, exactly what the title says. I recently saw a gameplay video for this game (the old one from 2002) and also saw some parts of the definitive edition, and thought that it looked somewhat like L.A Noire, a game I personally really enjoyed. What I am wondering is, should I play the original or the definitive edition first?

Oh, yeah I know that the games won't be very similar, all I mean is that they take place in similar time periods, have a similar open-world design (basically a big city with nothing to do in it aside from the story and just general driving around) and so forth. I don't expect it to be L.A Noire 2 XD

Also thanks, I'll wait and see a few more people's opinions, but I think I probably will be trying the original followed by the definitive edition.

the original has far more details than the definitive edition but it is quiet dated. I'd suggest installing a remastered mod, you can easily find them on the internet. These mostly fix the graphics a bit. The definitive edition has better graphics and is a modern game in every aspect, with all the good and negative that comes with it. Both are good, but I guess the original is cheaper and its a real good game, especially if you install a remastered mod.

I am only 21 myself, but I do enjoy old games, heck I've been really enjoying the original Gold Box DnD RPGs, which are REALLY old.

Grab some mods and the original is darned good.
"Mafia Restoration mod 2017" is a must. (no idea if its any newer versions)
I also used:
"Mafia XboxRainDroplets"
"Mafia WaterShader Mod"
"Footpath & Road Mod v2.4 Modern Look" (The author might have made a 30's look also)
"Original Sounds"
(I might have use the "Mafia-WidescreenFix)

If you got problems finding any of this just shout and i'll pack up mine and upload somewhere. It will be a few GB.

The original game isn't that outdated, and it has far better direction, music, gameplay (DE is very linear and the AI is just plain bad while the OG gives you a lot of freedom and encourages creative approach), and story (Hangar 13 made certain changes to the plot and turned it into a poor man's Scorsese's movie).

It will take some time to get used to the shooting and driving mechanics but once you do it'll grow on you. Think of it as Dark Souls but with cars and guns. A really crude comparison, I know, but you'll probably get what I mean. Just make sure to restore the licensed music and get the mod for unlimited draw distance (it's a must)!

Original is good. And it will be free from 1st to 5th september. So you can play original for free and if you have money you can buy remake.
