I don't know how my younger-self used to win it, but nowadays I just struggle.

In my first few tries, I kept screwing up not because of the other racers (I always end up driving far away from them on Normal), but because of the handling sometimes causing me to crash or flip. I found that it become easier when I brake a little more often and sort of ease into the turns and take it slowly.

On the back stretch area there is a kind of a little 'chicane' you can really gain time up on them by cutting the apex just a little bit - don't lift through there.

as an 11 year old kid, I sadly gave up on the game at that mission.

The mission can be skipped now though cant it? or is that only for the GOG release?

It's doable, I've done it in 2002 also as i did it last year. You just have to be confident. Just hit the break a little more often, that's the biggest problem people have with this mission.. they always drift away or crash into some walls :)

I never had any problems. Beat this game several times back in 2002 to 2005. The race was fine.

Same I don't know, never had any troubles with it it's like the parking mission in Driver.
On the other hand some gunfights were far more difficult imo

lol Yeah! The same. I played Driver like before Internet was big and community and such.. It wasn't until a decade later that I learned the parking lot tutorial in Driver was a problem to many people. So much so that some people never even got past it.

I distinctively remember playing for the first time back in the day.. 1999 I think, on PC with a keyboard and getting through that in only a couple of attempts... Later in the same day, I remember a friend came over and I started a new game to show him the beginning and got through the tutorial in the first try. It was really just a tutorial.. to this day I don't understand how people got stuck there.

same i discovered that with the internet, I was 10 yo and did it after maybe 8-10 attempts
You just have to get several tries to know what are the optimal combos, to avoid loosing time.
But I never thought people got fed up (and stuck indefinitely) on that part

Maybe was an age thing... Probably most people who got stuck there were younger? I donno. I was 16 or 17...

You know the race can be won within 2 mins or sth using a little glitch? Quite known back then when i was young and only me had beaten it regularly of all my friends^^

Had the glitch been removed in the steam version?

If memory serves Illusion softworks patched it out when they added the difficulty option.

Really this is the worst race of all time I've ever seen in gaming.

Driver,GTA,Saints Row,Need For Speed and even Road Rash have much better car handling and races.

1 time I was nearly winning but on the 5th lap my vehicle rolled over and it just decided to stuck.
