Even in the early games they released, there were mentions of many other worlds, with a few games including the disgaea series making use of it more actively (taking place in multiple of those worlds and/or having invaders from other worlds in the main plot).
There is one game that is more strongly linked to this one, called 'Soul nomad and the world eaters' on PS2 as one of the characters of Phantom Brave appears there as an important character that crossed over unwillingly near the end of Phantom Brave's story.
If you are searching for a stronger link, it's not there, they make most of their games as stand alone as possible so that you don't need to know their other games to be able to enjoy and understand the one you are playing, and outside of a few exceptions there are no real chronological order either.
In fact, there are barely any references in this outside of that, the story telling and combat systems are also significantly different, so outside of the cameos it might as well not be from the same studio.
Soul Nomad though has the strongest connection as it literally adds to the series story. While Makai Kingdom gives some side lore, Soul Nomad essentially reveals a Phantom Brave 2... Which of course will never happen (alternatively one could say it reveals what happens after Phantom Brave)
Disgaea's actual connections to Phantom Brave are few.
