It does share a few mechanics, but they are pretty different games, and not just in the story telling and characters.
The equipment system is more conventionnal (not just a weapon slot), the summons stay and are created from items in the base rather than on the field, the "out of bound" has actual uses, the maps are in multiple parts, and the "main" character can't actually clear maps on his own (he can't move on his own after all).
I definitely want Makai kingdom on PC, because it's such a great game, but it's not really part of a series with phantom brave.
Changing "Phantom" with "Makai" seems confusing to me--also one of the reasons I've believed it to be a sequel to "Phantom Brave"--especially since it's a translation, to a different language than it's localization(?)... *Translation from Japanese "Phantom" to English "Makai" which is really just Japanese "Phantom" to Japanese "Makai", while "Kingdom" remains the same.
