Play it literally by order of release lol.
Go Bioshock 1 > Bioshock 2 > Minerva's Den (Bioshock 2 standalone dlc) > Bioshock Infinite > Burial At Sea (Infinite dlc)
A word of note about Bioshock Infinite vs the other 2, though.
Infinite was "originally supposed" to be a completely different storyline, but the suits at 2K (the company that owns the franchise) wanted it to be connected to the Bioshock storyline to attract a bigger audience.
As far as Infinite goes, it is a VERY different experience, that uses some of the same elements, but it feels more like a Halo shooter, than the "rpg survival horror" you will experience in Bioshock 1 or 2.
As others have said, play them in order of release. Bioshock 2 however, was done without Ken Levine and his team and just done by 2K, so technically not part of the series in theory, but imo, it is a great addition aside from the constant crashing.
1 and 2 with minerva will always be THE Series
infinite should have been its own game and burial at sea is an absolute disgrace to the original plot.
May as well not touch bioshock 1, it's written by the same person.
He didn't make 2, just Bioshock 1 and Bioshock Infinite. I was hoping he would make a TV Series, I think a Bioshock Movie was in the works way back in like 2015. Would have been interesting to see it live action.
