How buggy is this game?
I bought both remasters when they came out, but while the first game was patched to the point where I could play it, I gave up on this one before it got to that point. Now many years later, I'm looking to clean up my list of unplayed games. Is it worth starting this one now? Or should I give up on ever playing it?

I would much rather not start than get a quarter of the way through before having to give up due to crashes.

I've recently played both the original and the remaster edition. In the original edition I crashed once. In this remaster edition I crashed several times. It wasn't unplayable though. Just don't play more than 15 min without quicksaving and it's mostly a minor annoyance.

Well the remastered edition randomly reset my playtime. IDK if it was the update that removed the launcher or what.

Same here. This is why I have to quicksave every 5-6 minutes in the event of it crashing.

The last time I played, probably a couple years ago, for whatever reason 2 remastered crashed a lot on Steam making it not enjoyable to play, but ran reasonably well when running it through Epic games.

remastered seems a bit buggy on my end. Kept crashing.

That's what plenty of people have said. You have to quicksave every 5-10 minutes.

I have tried bioshock 2 remastered on 2 PCs. If i start a new game, it runs flawlessly as long as I want to play. However, If i save, and try to load a save file, the game crashes every time. I've tried my own save files, autosaves, and downloaded saves from other users. Tried running it as administrator and changed compatibility to windows 8. running windows 11 on both machines. One is AMD Ryzen and the other is Intel.

I have crashed once so far, game began to stutter then closed - That is literally the only issue I have had with the game thus far.

Its playable for sure - just make sure you quicksave constantly. There are random crashes but 3/4 through the game I've only had 3 crashes which set me back 1-20 minutes. Annoying, but nothing crippling.

Edit: Make sure you save before EVERY big sister fight. For whatever reason, 95% of the game crashes happen during big sister fights. Also try to avoid fighting in graphically complex areas. For whatever reason, fighting in less graphically complex areas seems to reduce the odds of a crash significantly.

AT LEAST IT ISN'T XCOM

Merry Xmas!
It keeps crashing on Windows 10 as early as the incinerate plasmid mission/ first real fight with a Big Sister.
Then I tried it on Arch Linux with Proton GE/ Vulkan and the game was 100% stable until the end. Minerva's Den DLC worked flawlessly as well.

Bioshock is my favourite series I replay it every year.
This year has been the best for the remaster I am getting achievements that have been broken since I first played in 2017, I will finally be able to 100 percent the game achievement wise, have experienced no game breaking bugs, I have had zero crashes playing on windows 10 and i'm all the way at Inner Persephone in game, its actually running flawlessly for the first time ever.
Crashing hasn't been too bad for me. Haven't crashed on any of the Big Sister fights, and so far I have only crashed once while in Siren Alley.

I cant believe a game that's over 10 years old in a series as popular as this would have crashing issues. What a waste of money. People are like, "crashing hasn't been too bad" or "I just save a lot" Does it happen more than once? Played the other BS several times in a row. No problems. Why does this one still have a known issue

EDIT 1/11- I was able to play it after deleting all my saved game files except for the most recent. Further instead of Auto/ Quicksaving, I just overwrote the last save with a normal Save. Then I deleted my that Bioshock.ini file that everyone tells you to edit. I closed the game and Steam and reopened the game, it created a new one and started working. I think the core issue was Quick saving with F11. I think it screws up the game. I suspect that everyone has a different problem with a different fix but everyone has a problem.

All that to say, its really scandalous that Steam doesn't grant some consideration/refund for a broke game if youve played for 2 hours . It took me 10 hours to fix their broke product. Theres no conversation, they just email you We are unable to refund this purchase to your {credit card} ending with ## at this time. Your playtime of an included product exceeds 2 hours (our refund policy maximum). I know that there are people out there that didnt get it to work and Steams all, I got your money get fkd. This is a Remastered version of one of the most popular games in the last few decades, there's no accountability. Makes you think twice about giving money to a company that cant back their product. I hope people start reading this and opt out Its honestly not worth it.

EDIT: 1/13 Tried playing through the game again now that I "fixed it" and it started crashing again. Fk Steam. Way to back your sht games. Now the real question... Whats Bioshock 4 or Judas going to play like.

i'm 6 hours into the game and had 0 crashes, hopefully it stays that way

I think the spear weapon is bugged from what people say, it's supposed to push enemies but it doesn't

edit: nvm.. the crashes started to happen

Wish I could give input, but all the game does is show the tiny Bioshock banner indicating the game is loading....without the game ACTUALLY loading...
