the bio2 gameplay is more casual and a way easier....(i'd say too easy... why vita-chambers, when you never die? or why protector trails when you get an instant a+ on first try?)
a example for casual gaming isn't only the general difficulty - also the plasmid and gun usage at the same time is a good example for it. (otherwise, they would probably overwhelmed)
another example are the tons of ammo, eve, money and medi packs.
or also the instant chance to hack an security bot.... there is no more need in bio2 to shock or freeze them before hacking. all in all it isn't bad but it's clearly more for recruit casuals to the fanbase.
(bio:inf used some of this points, because of bio2 and the new added fanbase...and that's why they have added the 1999-mode which was a little bit harder but anyway too easy because you never need to buy something) but btt.... :D
and a emotional story isn't alawys an better story... i prefer the political/social/scientific story from part one and see it as that what is it: an additional story extension for more background in this universe. (because andrew is basically right... he has only become paranoid *g*)
the story of bio2 is more like "they stole my girl, give me my girl back", while bio1 has created something new - something unknown, with a lot of side stories. it was unknown but yet so familiar.
the best thing in bioshock 2, was minerva's den AND the multiplayer (miss it).
I have to disagree as most of your complaints about B2 being more casual freindly can easily be applied to B1.
1. Bioshock also has vita-chambers so I'm not sure how you can knock B2 for having them, regardless, they can be disabled in both games.
2. Dual weilding, while not present in bioshock, was a logical progression and felt like a pointless limitation in bioshock. Who fights one handed?
3. Tons of ammo, eve, money and medkits? Bioshock has all those things! Not to mention that you can carry nearly twice as much medkits/eve hypos in bioshock.
4. Not needing to shock a bot. I'll give you that one.. sort of. one can argue that while hacking is quicker, it can also be more difficult due to the fact that it plays out in real time leaving you open to attacks.
Yeah, Minerva's Den is the best part of the Bioshock franchise. No argument here.
Bioshock 1 may have a more complex story, but that story is only 20-30% of the game. The other 70% you're left with mediocre gunplay, bullet sponge enemies and a tedious hacking minigame.
Bioshock 2 is just much more fun to play, and at the end of the day that's what a video game should be - fun to play.
If the highlight of your entire game is the story (which requires you to stand still most of the time) then I might as well just watch a compilation of all the audio logs and cutscenes on Youtube.
Also whether or not the story is better or worse is entirely subjective. Personally I didn't care much about the story of Bioshock 1 or any of it's characters, whereas with Bioshock 2 I cared about Eleanor and I had to think about what I wanted to do with Grace, Alexander and Poole.
BS1 has a good beginning and a bad ending, BS2 has a bad beginning and a good ending.
Bioshock 2 is my favourite personally, it had a very touching story. Loved being a big daddy. And I liked the villain was female and used her mind rather then powers
1. Yep Bioshock 1 has vita-chambers too, but it's also possible to die in bioshock 1... as you can read: bioshock 2 is really imba, even on survival.
2. Where is the logic?
Other question: which big daddy ai or big sister ai is fighting with both at the same time? None... they fight always single handed (even the splicers). Bioshock 1 is, based on the setting, more "realistic".
btw: in other games and reallife: no one fights one handed, ever heard of physics and recoil?
3. Just nope... sure Bioshock 1 has ammo, medipacks, eve and money too, but not in this huge amount. You need to collect it in Bioshock 1 but you can find it really everywhere in Bioshock 2, it isn't only droping something, it is spaming with it.
4. Where is it hard to hack an security bot in Bioshock 2? Yeah it's realtime but this doesn't matter because of the fact, that you only need max. 3 steps with several really big areas.(at the beginning without props).
Or ever heard of simple multitasking?
Or you can also use a little bit of your max filled money bag, to buy an instant-hack for ~$30 (your money bag is also bigger).
In Bioshock1 you first need to deactivate them, without destroying them - and then you need to check, if you have enough time to go to the deactivated machine. (where is it landed?) - and you need to check also if you have enough health or enough money (#3) to hack it or the right props. (last one @ a later date)
Minerva's Den is a part of Bioshock 2.... and yes, it's no argument, it's an opinion, posted in an thread where it's asked for opinions!
btw: i have never said, that i doesn't like Bioshock 2 - i've only said why i prefer Bioshock 1. So don't cry, it's only an opinion ;)
I'm not sure what you're getting at. Is it not possible to die in Bioshock 2?
The logic? You have a free hand, use it. True, your enemies do fight single handed but so what? why should you?
C'mon, dude. You're making Bioshock out to be some sort of survival game where you have to watch your supplies. That's just not the case. I've played through Bioshock countless times across multiple platforms and I never felt that ammo/medkits/eve was a scarcity.
What I meant was that at times it can be more difficult, not always. For example, in a hectic firefight, aiming your hack dart, shooting a bot, and then timing the actual hacking is more of a challenge than a crappy minigame.
Im not sure why you felt the need to argue here, I was agreeing with you about how much I liked Minerva's Den.... And I like the original Bioshock too. One of my favorite games of all time.
do you read?!
naah... go away....
Yeah, showing mercy was awesome... plus it directly affected gameplay because those characters send you supplies and whatnot. It also changes the ending.
The best is saved for last, though. Minerva's Den is the best part of Bioshock 1 or 2. Wow, I loved every second of that. Amazing storytelling, excellent level design, challenging without being overwhelming. The brisk pace keeps it feeling constantly fresh for all of the 5 or so hours it lasts. Simply superb in every way.
