Early game i used the nailgun and the shock plasmid and after some good perks i switched to the drill and stomped everyone with the drill charge. (Als very good to gather research points completed every research before the final level).
Speaking of research i focused it as soon as i got my hands on the camera. The bonuses are very handy ex the last one from the bruiser.
Also upgraded or hacked robots are good too. Take everything which give you numbers or an advantage. Dont walk around with a fat wallet of cash too. There is plenty invest it in ammo or meds or eve but keep a small reserve of 200 if things get out of hand.
I believe the tonics stack too. Took the double armor upgrade. Also make sure to research the spider splicers. Free EVE and health in while standing in water is very good takes some time but it is free.
Good luck out there!

I played this game Hard on day 1, so now it feels almost easy too me - after 300 hours.
