Game crashing during the Gil Alexander part

My game has been running fine and dandy until now where it's crashing in the Gil Alexander room no matter what I do. Is there anything I can do to prevent it?
I wouldn't like to play the whole game all over again in the original version.

did you end up getting around it? I just activated the mains so the lights would go on and then when i go to turn on the power it keeps crashing

That was nearly 2 years ago. As far as I remember, I lowered some settings and I was good to go. I don't recommend the remastered version though. Dunno why I've installed it in the first place.
