Bioshock 2 Remastered "Press Space to Continue" Crash Bug: WORK-AROUND
Replace the "Bioshock2.exe" & "Engine.U" files for version 1.0.121755 (the version after THAT patch) with the ones from version 1.0.121322 (the apparent release version). I have tested this on Windows 10 64 bit and Windows 7 64 Ultimate running AMD HD 7970 cards. If done this way, in my experience, the game version will still diplay the newest version, but will only have the graphic options of the older version. This has gotten me past the "Press Space [or button] to Continue" option for the regular game, Minerva's Den and the Protector Trials.

...looks like this forum is auto-removing the links I am posting for the files needed for the work-around(s). I'll need to find a way to fix that...I tried putting the link in quotes so the test persists through the filter, just copy the link instead of clicking it. Hope this helps.

How to get the old version of these files, that is the question. Could you upload them to Mega or something and give us the link? I am sure this will not qualify as piracy as it is barely a tiny part of the game.

...from a system backup taken before the last game patch.

Yes, it works properly I have no problems saving or loading. However I think I will wait a little longer for them to actually fix this damn thing.

At least now they should see, that it was their stupid patch who has broken the game....
Maybe you can post this thread to them?^^

I believe the save files before and after patch are incompatible, try starting a new game and see if you can save and load as usual.

hah wow so it worked, I'm playing it now, I was already starting to play the original Bioshock 2 so I'll just be playing for an hour or two to get to where I left off. Great way to kill some time before football. #GoPackGo

Btw thanks OP

I don't want to sound like Tech Support, but make sure to follow the directions in the Read Me file. I say this because I had made a mistake when I was testing this out on both my systems (trying to simplify the process, finding the least amount of files needed) and I had mixed up the file versions at least once, and I was like, "This was working a second ago!!! WTF?!?!" If it doesn't work for you, then I don't know what to say except this process essentially reverts the game's exe to the previous version and allows it to run. I woudn't think the type of GPU would make a difference here, and it is possible that in this configuration the old save files won't run. I wouldn't know since I didn't have a old save files to check with. Try re-verifing the game cache to set the files back to the latest version, then retry this method using the provided directions, then first try starting a new game after backing up your save files. If it doesn't work, please let us know.

I changed the files in the right folders....
And both had the Date 16.09. I started the game 2 times and each time when in wanted to continue crash. So I put in again the original files.
If you don't made more than only change the Bioshock2.exe and Engine.U than it seems I have rly bad luck.

Oh and @Mandelbrot Ich hab nicht sonderlich große Lust das Spiel nochmal von neuem zu beginnen....

Maybe if you use NVIDIA you need one more File to replace. Or it is something complete different....
I had hope but now again it's crashed again....

I am sorry I have to ask this, because I know how incredibly frustrating it is when people keep asking the same questions, but I just what to understand you clearly: after attempting this method, did you try to start a NEW game? If so, does it still crash after "Pressing Space"?

I know you aren't keen on starting the game over from the beginning again, and your goal, along with just about everyone, is to have the game working normally and for us to be able to use the saved game files.

1) to get past your particular flavor of this problem, you may need the entire game release for the previous version before this freaking patch, which, unfortunately, I cannot help anyone with.

2) There may be an additional file or additional files needed for Nvidia GPUs using this method, which is a complete guess on my part, that are not being installed on my system since I have ATI Radeon. If I had an Nvidia GPU to throw in my system, I would test this out in a heartbeat. I do not know of a quick and easy method for us to compare the files on your system versus mine. If you can think of something, I am ready to listen.

No I didn't tryd to start a new game. Only continue. In my case I can make a new game with the patch from 07.10. too.
and from all my saves there are some older ones wich I can load too. But the newer SAVES wich I want to continue have the press space to crash bug.

50% of my Saves have the Bug. After a certain Point all my Saves have this problem....
And what I can add is that all my Saves are in Siren ALLY

And if there is no fix it seems I will not can pass this level-part.
