Have you tried to reinstall it?

Go directly to Microsoft sites, do not download dll's off the web from just anywhere, lots of malware b/c this is a common problem. Look for and install all versions of C++ redistributable x86 and x64 that are available, and since this is an old game as far back as possible. Install them all, it doesn't matter. Then report back, hopefully before the sale ends :)

EDIT: I am not recommending this download to anyone, you need to check it out and decide yourself, but Techpowerup provides a C++ all-in-one archive for download going back to 2005 and has 32- and 64-bit versions.

What Causes BioShock Remastered to Crash on Windows?
https://appuals.com/how-to-fix-the-bioshock-remastered-crashing-problem-on-windows/

The game can crash for a wide variety of different problems. We have created a shortlist of all possible causes for you to check out. Determining the correct cause can help you resolve the problem more easily so make sure you check it out!

> Lacking administrator permissions – Some games require that their main executable has administrator permissions so make sure you provide them to resolve the problem.
> Steam Overlay – Steam Overlay is generally known to cause issues with quite a few games and BioShock games are incompatible with this feature. Try disabling it to resolve the problem.
> CPU cores – Sometimes the game struggles when trying to run the game’s engine on multiple CPU cores. This can be resolved by editing the configuration file.
> DirectX 10 incompatibility – Users have reported not being able to run the game on DirectX 10. Make sure you try using the DirectX 9 version.
> Overclocking – If you are constantly struggling with BioShock Remastered crashing on Windows, you should try to stop overclocking your GPU, CPU, or memory.

I was crashing every 5 minutes and having my dificulty and controls reset. This fixed it for me. go to properties in the bioshock.exe and "run as administrator" and "run in 640 X 480 screen resolution", don't worry this will only effect your desktop resolution and not ingame. and launch from the .exe, NOT THROUGH STEAM

I am very new to the act of trying to fix problems with games... Please explain it for the dummies (me). Where exactly do I download those files to? When it gives me the option to select where the files are downloaded, where do I place them?

The C++ files (if that is what you are asking about) will install into your operating system (OS) location, which should be to the C-drive right? ;)

Chances are if you are asking that question, you only have one drive installed anyways, no judgement intended. But for future reference having OS on one drive and your games on another separate drive (preferably a SSD) is better for performance. There is a lot to learn about PC gaming but it is very enlightening once you decide to take on the challenge, it's a good hobby that has a lot of benefit in real life work, because then you know more about computers when others don't. You just have to want to learn.

Troubleshooting is all about knowing what questions to ask, and in this case ask google (if you prefer) how to install C++ It's just like updating your OS.

I appreciate your helpful tips. I have my OS on an M.2 and most of my games are on an SSD. I do, however have some games on a separate M.2 from my OS. It does allow for pretty fast processing. I will google around and try to see what to do. The strange part about the two Bioshock Remastered games not working is... all of my other steam games work fine. Even all of the other Bioshock games work fine. I don't understand a whole lot about how the C++ stuff works, but it would seem to me that if it's attached to the OS, it should work for all of those games instead of having one or two that mysteriously don't function. I verified the game files, and Steam said they were fine. I also tried to uninstall and reinstall the games. Still didn't fix it. I will check out the google info you suggested. Hopefully I can figure it out.

AOK, I'm not saying the C++ will be a panacea for this failure of BioS-Remastered to start up, but it is a good step to try and eliminate.

Most/many people have new Win10 gaming systems, you say you have several M2 drives (!!!) but since this is an old game that may not have been ported well, then old dll files (those in old versions of C++ ...) may not be in the game install and may not be in your new game system! And so they may be the trick to solve the impasse.

The TechPowerUp comprehensive archive of C++ should be reliable, they provide very good tools for game community, but again you need to make the decision to download and use their archive for yourself.

Really tho, the install of C++ is ultra simple, it just installs to your OS drive location, I am not being a ♥♥♥♥ here...

Let us know.

I ran into the same problem and this fixed it for me

Download and install the x86 version. If you get the option to repair, uninstall choose repair

I know this is probably a stupid question, but where do I download it? just into my downloads folder?

Noob!!! Dude, that worked.. I copy/pasted the DirectX files to each game's folder and ran the setup for each one. Then I downloaded and installed the redistributables that you sent me in both. Presto! They both launched! Thank you so much!
