What are these sounds on the level "Artemis Suites"?
1:04, 1:26
I heard them back in Bioshock Infinite. At the beginning of the game.

Oh this has been a very popular topic. There are many theories as to what those sounds are, but no definite answers. Some say it's the Songbird, some kind of splicer, a Big Daddy, even a whale. Though that seems very unlikely. It might be some kind of experiment biological or mechanical (perhaps even a mixture of both) that Dr. Harrison Powell and Dr. Pettifog were working on. They definitely lack the moral ethics seeing as they implanted a mind-control device into Elizabeth. so they could definitely be involved in other shady activities. Or maybe something the Lutece siblings were involved in. Some have also suggested that it could have been something Suchong was working on (even though he wasn't there physically during the events of Infinite, he was referenced). Others have speculated it might be machine malfunctioning, and if that were the case Fink Manufacturing might be responsible. There's also a rumour that if the sounds are sped up by 200x it will turn into music, but that seems farfetched to me. Yet others have theorized it's evidence of yet another ghost activity because of the encounter with Lady Comstock's ghost that was physical in nature apposed to the ghostly remnants of people that appeared first in Rapture.

What I however think is the likeliest scenario is that these sounds are auditory hallucinations. According to the lore, the excessive use of ADAM can induce auditory and visual hallucinations. Stating that the ghosts, are leftover memories that are passed over to the user by a crossover of genes during genetic sampling and using recycled ADAM from deceased Little Sisters.

Don't overthink it. I believe it's supposed to be a whale or an orca. Maybe slightly twisted and adjusted to sound more mysterious, otherworldly and scary. And in Bioshock Infinite they just reused those sounds.

Not exactly distorted whale sounds. It's hard to even imagine what can produce something like this in a distorted form.

It also seems to me that these may be hallucinations. After all, the sound for ambient is very loud and it is difficult not to hear it. It seems as if he is in the head of the main character. Hallucinations are also slightly similar to this sound.
I also want to make a theory that this is distorted sound from loudspeakers. For example, when a message is played, such a distorted sound appears. But it's more appropriate to what it sounds like at 1:26. And the one that sounds at 1:04, I can't describe. It's like he's extraterrestrial.
But even if it's just sounds taken from a music library. Or the composer of the game invented them himself. I'm still wondering how they did it. For me, this is something that I can't keep quiet about. I've never heard anything like this before. (sorry for the English, I used a translator)

If you know better... Sometimes even developers can't say for sure what they've done to the game when fans come to speculate on various aspects of their creations.
"Ooooh this rock in the middle of the ocean must mean something, right? Right? It's in the shape of my arse, so it must be a real world reference ooooh woooh amazing breaking the 4th wall". No. Sometimes a sound is just a sound. A texture is just a texture.

Sometimes there are obvious things. And sometimes not.

Hmm. Interesting theory. I haven't heard that one before. But I'm still leaning toward the hallucination from ADAM use theory.

HAh, very true. That's the very nature of humans, attempting to find meaning where there is none. I can also imagine some developers putting ambiguous things into their games intentionally for that very purpose. Similarly with putting Easter eggs into their games.
