Difficulty setting resets to Medium every time I load a game. Any solution?
**EDIT 4: Success.** The below method works, using GD_EXTREME as the difficulty setting in Bioshock.ini. You have to start a game with your preferred settings, make sure things are the way you want them in the Options menus, then save, quit, and make the .ini Read-only. You'll likely want to make your User.ini Read-only as well if you're using mouse fixes, etc.

----------------------------

Boy, what is with this remaster, huh? I'm having lots of problems everyone else is (mouse issues, CTDs, flickering lights, etc.), but this one is really bothersome and has already forced me to restart several times.

Basically I choose Survivor difficulty when starting a New Game, tick Adaptive Training OFF and Disable Vita-Chambers ON, and get started. Once I'm in game, I go into the Gameplay Options menu to confirm (again) that my options are set correctly. Planning to knock out all the achievements in one go, and this had me on edge years ago with the original Xbox 360 release.

I go ahead and play a bit and then exit the game. Next time I fire it up, load my game (choosing either Continue or Load Game, same outcome), and sure enough my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Gameplay Options are back at Medium difficulty, Adaptive Training ON, Disable Vita-Chambers OFF.

Anyone know how to fix this issue?

By the way, for those having some of the common problems I mentioned above, check out the PCGamingWiki entry for some fixes.

Thanks, and Jesus, good luck out there with this one, folks.

EDIT: I may have a solution, but if it works, it's insane that the devs would make us players take these measures just to use their own menu options. Here's what I've got:

- Find your Bioshock.ini (typically in C:\Users[YOUR NAME]\AppData\Roaming\BioshockHD\Bioshock) and make a copy, then open it in a text editor.

- Under [ShockGame.ShockUserSettings], find and edit the following lines accordingly:

GameDifficulty=GD_SURVIVOR
AdaptiveTraining=False
NoVitaChamber=True

Save the file, then right click on it, click Properties, and tick the box that says Read-only. Apply.

Testing now...

EDIT 2: Welp, good news and bad news. The above "fix" did manage to lock my Adaptive Training and Disable Vita-Chambers options to the settings that I wanted. Bad news is the difficulty still jumps back to Medium whenever I load a game. I suspect it's because the technical term for the hardest difficulty setting that the .ini understands is not GD_SURVIVOR. I don't know what it is, so I'm still stuck.

EDIT 3: Turns out the difficulty setting for the .ini should be GD_EXTREME.

Far too many bugs in this release, simple things like this should not be broken, and having to edit ini files ir really madness.

Agreed, despite turning Mouse acceleration off in the INI files (Which it should be in the menus) I'm still getting Mouse acceleration in the menus but not in the gameplay.

Same here, although I suspect I'm getting it during gameplay, too. I turned my sensitivity to the lowest setting (might've made it worse?) and it still looks stuttery in-game, but the menus are a chore to even navigate. Ridiculous.

Got it work. See the final edit at the top of the post if interested. It's crazy that we have to go through this just to set up the in-game options. This thing is about as half-baked as they come.
