Brightness slider not actually doing anything?
I was moving it back and forth on the new game startup, but it didn't actually change any.

I had the same issue. First time launching the game the slider worked. However, when I launched it a second time my slider did nothing. I simply quit, verified game cache, and re-launched and my slider was working again. Hope this helps.

I'm having the same problem... Unfortunately verifying the game cache didn't work for me. OP, did it work for you?

Good Life's solution did indeed work for me. I noticed when I verified that it didn't say any files needed to be replaced or anything, but it did work when I went in the next time.

I bought the game during the summer sale and i'm currently having the same problem. Verifying the game files did not work, neither did reinstalling it. I tried changing some brightness values in the bioshock.ini but this did nothing. This game is kind of unplayable in this state since I can't see ♥♥♥♥.

I'm having the exact same issue. Sad that it's taking them this long to fix it.
Yes the tweaks still work in the HD version

This one is an easy fix -> right click the exe of the game then disable "full screen optimization".

Turning off multiple displays helped

Thought I will give my two words here. I found a fix (sort of) for the brightness problem. I have this little parasite on my PC called Intel Graphic Control Panel. I believe it must be overwriting the brightness in game. I changed it in the panel itself and can tune it from the panel. Other than that no fix for me worked.

This guy is correct. I do have multiple monitors, so that may be the culprit. However disabling full screen optimization is key here.

ELI5 explanation....

-Right-click Bioshock remastered in steam and select "Properties..."
-Click the "LOCAL FILES" tab
-Click "BROWSE GAME FILES..."
-File Explorer will open and double-click "Build" then "Final"
-Right click on the executable "BioshockHD.exe" and select "Properties"
-Click the "Compatibility" tab
-Check-mark "Disable fullscreen optimizations"
-Click "OK"

You're done.
The brightness slide bar should now work.

Thanks @namoi76 for the fix.
