No labor, Idle peasants
For instance. I have a well. It eventually has a red circle and noose.
Plenty of idle peasants. None of which go to the well. I build a new well next to the unattended one and it's tended to, for a while before it also becomes abandoned.
Turn industry off and then turn industry on and "A peasant is on the way" and no one ever shows up. Build a new structure and it's immediately manned.
This happens with a number of other things, like farming and such.
Every time. I reload a starting game save to try something different but the outcome is always the same. Idle peasants, abandoned work sites, and lowering sentiment until people start to leave.

shure that the people who worked in those buildings before were not just truning into criminals?

if a worker turns into a criminal the building will not be attended to until the criminal is punished and the punishment is finished. (fastest way is to just behead them)

Maybe. Haven't considered that.
But, if that is the case then it's stupid that the game will not automatically assign another to that industry.
On another note, only a few minutes into the game, I always have peasants going bad,
Even if sentiment is good.
Noticed my wheat field had it's peasant gone bad and the peasant just stayed at the farm. Had to delete the farm before he moved on.

Peasants go bad before I can get food and wood production going. Build a courthouse and torturers guild and guard post.
Have at least one to two industries of peasants going bad within 60-120 seconds of a new game. And hopefully not have wolves or others attack me.
People love me though.

Hello,
I advice you to try to open a kingmaker (since the beginning !)or free game to understand when and how criminals are coming...
the bug where criminals werre stuck some times in a wheat field or candels'makers was knew and may coming but never always..
Another advice , you may loose a game if your lord walk on a dog poop and die when he go to the church or the Lady's Bedchamber ^^

the cirminal system never should have kept workers from working. They should have made more crimanals instead and wich you have more choice in dealing with them or simply take the food loos as a thing. The neg popularity is also to harsh for crime.

I think it would make the game fun and engaging to play if criminals only showed up after a more substantial population appeared. Would make more sense, especially if taxes were high.

hmm linking them towards thigns like taxation or maybe food rationing would be a very elegant fix indeed. Taxes speak for themselfs however when given double rations why would people steal food?!
Also when i would turn to crime and stop showing up at work i'm pretty sure i'l be replaced in no time long before i get caught haha so strange it doesn't happen here.
The only reason why criminals are somethign we HAVE to deal with is becouse of the high popularity loss and the potential key workplaces wich don't get filled in. Dealing with it should be more of a choice and indeed the result of smarter actions instead of just whenever you have population increase.

I see your point but some people become criminals simply because they don't want to work for a living.
The opportunities are there, yet stealing for some is better than working for it.
So a population amount and/or a combination of high taxes and low rations seem logical.

Just an example if you know the movie and the motivation of the character...
At about the 1 minute mark.

This is on free build.
I've tried restarting a dozen times to do things differently.
All had basically the same result of people turning bad.
Makes no sense as my popularity is good according to the advisor.
No taxes, normal rations with them slowly dwindling because my farms(I place an orchard, dairy farm, wheat field and a hunter's post) turn criminal.
Once one goes down, shortly thereafter another, then my well, then my gonk pit and so on until people start leaving.
All this barely before I have my first wood planks delivered.

If I saved my wood to keep the outlaws and wolves at bay to quickly build the things that might help keep the criminals in check, I'd get outlaws and wolves killing and destroying.

Hello,
Ok!Ok!Ok!
I never played more than two free build maps , but the rules must be the same.....
A simple kingmaker was more simple to well understood..
Criminels are coming normally after two or three new houses , they are more annoying than an other thing if you try to get in time : the Courthouse, the guard house (put it near the houses than the granary if possible ...) and a Mask or a Gibbet...
They are only here and usefull to make somes regular honor points !!!
So they are coming in every games (Exceptions on certains scenarios made by others players)
In a kingmaker ,you must build in order : a Falconer's post, a Gong pit and only after rank Knight,a Courthouse..
So , at the beginning , after build generally four buildings of each differents food (build the bread production at the end only when you get enought wood and people)
You get enought food to give more food and finally double rations to the serfs and be able to put the taxes on 6 or less..
The goal was to win money, honor and let the popularity to increase to 100..
I hope to be enought clear ...
PS: In a free build or another else, send your Lord to destroy the Outlaws camp since the beginning and after let him kill the wolves ^^

yeah the kingmaker system is better as you don't have to deal with these problems only when ranking up. However the system feels to basic and the threats should just be piling up with bigger populations but also only turn into big problems as your castle grows larger.
Especially the popularity negativity is to punishing and should really only come up after a while. A quik adjust would even be to have a popularity bonus of +1 for no rats +1 for no crime +1 for no gong.
Or delete the popularity effect go completly and let the crime stealing your food gong killing your workers and rats annoyign your workers be such a drain on your effectivity if you don't deal them at all and then you have more freedom in the speed in wich you deal with this stuff rather now where your instantly obligated to do so.
