for me personally its stronghold 2 because it is the stronghold game that focuses the most on the castle sim aspect of the series.
stronghold 2 and stronghold legends :scribe:
Stronghold 2 they had so much potential with 3 but after a week everyone went back to sh2

Crusader 1

Mind you if SH2 hadn't launched with the campaign ruining bug and had something akin to the Crusader Trail and better Skirmish AI lords it could have been better as it does do the castle sim better.

Honestly i find Crusader AI just as flawed if not more. Crusader AI can have better attack waves, but unlike Stronghold 2 AI which will build a smaller castle on smaller territories, Crusader AI doesn't do that and just picks at random, that and the fact it can't build a building except on designated spots [so if barracks is blocked of it never builds it] can lead to AI just being static, more so the larger AI.
Plus personally i find trails boring, its just bunch of missions set up that honestly you could randomly think of too. Legends is the only game that does Trails right, unique edits of pre existing maps, with unique AI, unique castles for AI and even invasions, shame it cuts so much from Stronghold 2.

Well yes none of the Stronghold AIs have been great. Being the first Stronghold with a multiplayer AI though its easier to give Crusader a pass on some issues.

Meanwhile in 2 its rather obvious certain AI don't actually play by kingmaker rules so much that it rather breaks the immersion, though that is as much a matter of making it a better castle sim making it easier to tell when AI is cheating.

Actually most AI do play by the rules. They ignore the wall rules as they can build them whenver. But apart from Queen and Olaf [which gain stuff like merc post as stuff] most AI follow the same building progression the player would.
Can't say there is much cheating, there might be but honestly, it is nowhere near the levels Crusader 2 gets.
