help defeating catapults?

Hi, I'm new to this game, only about 6 or 7 missions in. I put my archers on the wall, but when I try to target the catapults it always says "Can't target him, M'Lord". What gives? Am I supposed to just let them bash the heck out of me? Thanks.

I get the same message when I try to target the individual engineers manning the catapult...

They're out of range most likely. Best way to beat catapults you cant hit is to either send out some melee units to mess em up quick or lay pitch around where they set up. Magonels and Ballistas work well to once theyre unlocked. Just be careful when placing the magonels they can mess up your own guys.

OK, thanks... In the early missions, seems I can only make archers... :-( Anyway to get the archers to work as melee units?

Turns out there's often a way to build a wall or a tower close enough to where the catapults end up, that they can be targeted. Just takes some experimenting with where you build these structures.

kill every enemy archer and then you can get out with your archers and kill those catapults

Well, I used to use 8-12 Knights to smash those catapults and after the job, bring them back to castle :D
But in missions, you must defeat them with archers.
