Add achievements
I've spend all early 2000s playing this game. I'd like to play it again, but now I only buy games with achievements. Would be super happy if they were added in Stronghold Crusader.

Seriously. Great games of yesterday constantly get remastered. Although we have Stronghold Crusader HD, achievements is what this game lacks to be trully revitalized.

Indie games with 1 developer have achievements, so its not a matter of wealth.

Achievements would require a level of integration with the Steam API that Firefly isn't willing to undertake for whatever reason. They'd probably fix overlay functionality far before they added achievements or workshop support, if they really wanted to, but it's pretty clear by this point that the devs' interest is in their new 3D games.

They could very well do it as a PR stunt before releasing Stronghold Crusader III.

Possibly, but consider that the devs aren't likely going to release something for free if it means that doing so will cost them a player base for a hypothetical SHC3. Why would they split interest from their new game in favour of the old one? They would probably rather include an updated SHC as a preorder bonus, which was indeed the case when SHC2 came out. Like you, I really want to see achievements because the game is a classic and has serious potential in terms of legacy support (similar to games like Titan Quest), but it can't run on nostalgia alone forever. It's just that there is isn't much incentive for Firefly here.

They can do it just the way you said it, or update it once announcing SHC3.
Nostalgia isn't everything this game has going for it. It's a great game.
Throwing a new coat of paint on great old games is profitable, isn't it?
You're right, they can't charge existing owners for few new features. So it has to be a promotional thing. Like Modern Warfare Remastered.

That's correct. While old games can continue to be profitable, though, companies are still motivated by what is most profitable. And that maximizing profit often lies at where all the new technology is. At the same time, profit eventually tapers off for a product if there is no new content for it. Actually, this is what I meant about nostalgia - the game is good, but there's no denying that it will eventually be forgotten if it's not kept alive in some way via content updates. It also doesn't help that the devs have basically milked SH and SHC to death with several successive iterations, none of which added much substantial content (such as achievements) besides the HD rework and maybe Steam cloud, at best. Like you mentioned, indie developers often succeed in creating simpler, non-demanding games, and Stronghold is certainly a series which can still benefit from that dynamic. But unlike most indie developers, there are other factors at play for Firefly, namely their history: the fact that the series is well past its heyday, due to a lack of innovation in subsequent titles/devs' failure to capitalize on what made the original SH great, and that that does not translate well towards the series as a whole, let alone SH1 and SHC.
