Why does everyone on Game Ranger use Stronghold Crusader v 1.1, 1.2 or 1.3 ?

So for the first time I wanted to play Crusader Multiplayer using Game Ranger and it turned out that nobody could play with me because all players there used Crusader v 1.1, 1.2 or 1.3 although the latest Version (the one I installed with steam) is 1.4 . Any ideas?

Many people still use disc versions of the game, and IIRC the 1.4 patch isn't all that well known, being both recent and only automatic through steam's platform. (1.3 was far more popular as that was the one which introduced HD and modernized SH for steam). You could either try GOG (still 1.3 there I believe) or perhaps downgrade, although I can't vouch for the latter option.

you can downgrade to the 1.3, and when you end the match re-upgrade to 1.4. but most people use the version 1.2 because is the official free upgrade that you can download from firefly studios site.

How would I downgrade? I also have the disk though. I bought both Disk (a loong time back) and steam version :P

install stronghold with the disk and upgrade it with the official patch

Downgrade the steam version (1.4) with whichever version patch you want, which you can find online (no guarantees it will work though), 1.2 should be the most common. Since you have the disk version that should be fine as well on its own, you can use that instead as it's most likely 1.1 or 1.2, the game isn't sold on disk anymore so basically anyone with 1.3 or above either bought the game online or patched a disk version manually. The downside is that you won't be able to use SH with steam, but I personally don't find that a problem since the steam overlay isn't even compatible with the game.
