Is this game really dead?

I've been keeping my eye on this game and watching some let's plays and it looks really amazing, however I keep readin about how the dev has bailed the game.
I've been o nthe forums lately and I still see some activity by other developers but I'm not sure what to believe.

I really want this game but if it's not going to progress I don't think I'm gonna buy it
What would you suggest?

For your information: Z903 and Ethrel are unpaid volunteers. They are unlikely to ever get paid for their efforts, even though they carry that "developer" tag next to their name. Accordingly, they have no responsibilities whatsoever - this isn't their game.

The volunteer devs ARE working on the game. It's just really slow going. IGNORE Muzzy. He's nothing but an annoying loud mouth at this point and should NOT be taken at his word, EVER.

No. Just start looking for other games. Stonehearth for example if you want games that are like this.

Fun fact. Smf even agreed that Muzzy was right all along. A year of inactivity, and yet if 1.8 gets released we're going to see a bunch of "told you it wasn't dead!" posts, perhaps followed by another year of inactivity afterwards. That sure warms the heart...

However, if Z903 actually manages to get any kind of 1.8 patch ready for release, Robert will be forced to do SOMETHING about it.

Wouldn't it be funny if Robert realized he can't drag this thing further anymore once Z903 finished the patch, and then announced the end of the project immediately afterwards? That's probably the worst case scenario right now, and it's not even entirely unplausible :)

The devs HAVE LIVES THAT COME FIRST! They're NOT padi professionals the work 8 hours a day on making games, THEY'RE VOLUNTEERS. The ONLY delusional ones around here ARE PEOPLE LIKE YOU.

And you're supposed to be the sensible adult in this situation?

Robert is still and has for one year been completly missing from the Timber and Stone scene. Answering emails only with no updates on the project on either steam or the offical forums. All we have is volunteers that "say" they are working on the game. Which isn't worth ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to me if it doesn't come from Robert himself.

Now please remove yourself before you embarrass yourself further.

You seem to be forgetting that there is an actual company behind this game. A company that launched the game on Steam without the intent to actually continue the development afterwards.

Just because there are two modders that have been given the "developer" nametags doesn't mean they are the actual developers of this game, they're just naive exploited free labor (and I'm not even sure if Ethrel is still around after Robert's latest announcement, it could be Z903 alone now). There is only one guy who holds the reins and reaps the profits, Robert, and he doesn't seem to be all that interested in the game's development anymore.

If Robert actually comes back and actively participates in the development again, then there's a sliver of hope for the future... but I doubt he will, not when things have already gotten this far. After all, the downfall of the game started when Robert had a burnout 3 years ago - the Steam launch was just the final nail in the coffin. It seriously doesn't look like the game will ever recover.
