Gamepad not working. No way to start game.
Hi all,
After waiting over 3 weeks for Ubisoft support (yeah what was I thinking?) to reply to my ticket, I'm going to try and ask here.

I have launched the game countless times by now, I have tried multiple controllers, and always the same thing. And yes, the gamepad is able to control the steam menu. In fact as a test I used the gamepad to launch the game, so I know the gamepad works.

I'm on top of a building. There's a popup in the distance saying press any button to start. And I can walk around but nothing happens even if I try to jump off the edge in room scale :-p. I have tried pushing buttons and nothing happens.

Anyone have tips on what I'm missing? I can't figure out how to get the game to start. I have tried mashing buttons on the gamepads, or mashing keyboard keys, or clicking the mouse. Nothing seems to work. I'm forever stuck on the roof of the building.

I'm posting here with hopes that it's something so simple I'm going to facepalm. Like I didn't push the button while looking up or something. No settings menu I can find either.

Alternatively, does someone know a secret command line option to switch to keyboard control? Or at least some way to get the game to start? Or a link to a manual? Or something. Anything. I'd hate to have to request a refund to this game because it looks so awesome.

Thanks!
Patrick

Doe this happen to you in any other Unity game, and what gamepad are you using?

I forgot to mention I'm on Windows 7. My gamepad is Steelseries Stratus XL via USB, which I bought specifically because of its supposed Xinput and DirectInput compatibility.

I can't give a good answer about Unity games. I was most recently playing Nights of Azure with this gamepad, and it worked. The windows USB Game Controllers callibration thing works, and even browser based games seem to recognize it.

I'd be curious which gamepads other people are using so I know which ones are compatible.

No reply on the Ubi ticket, but I got an official answer from Ubisoft Support via chat. The compatibility page lists "Xbox One Controller or PC compatible gamepad"

However, the support rep told me "For VR, I believe it is just the Xbox controller." and otherwise implied that no other game controllers are compatible, noting that my Steelseries Stratus XL is specifically not comaptible.

Anyone have experience with other gamepads working? or does everyone here own an Xbox One controller? Given ubisoft support has pushed me past the refund deadline I guess time to shell out another $60(?) for an Xbox One gamepad...

The game is playable with the Vive wands, just tried it myself. I personally prefer the controller, but I'm pretty sure you've got a set of those :D

You can go to Amazon or buy a used xbox one controller for a little of nothing...a lot less than 60$. As an example is the following and it's not even the least expensive. I bought the one I have for 5$ off of a Swap and Shop on FB, a pawn shop might have one for next to nothing as well. Good luck.

It works with noname gamepads.

You can use x360ce.exe program to emulate any gamepad or joystick as x360:
http://www.x360ce.com/

Choose the right platform x86 or x64 the same as your game .exe file (Eagle Flight is x64), calibrate your device, add game .exe path in Games tab, set COM checkbox, apply, save. It's create xinput.dll files for this game.
