its completely different theme, the 1999 is aboud pod racing, this is about regular racing, and the highest budget aaa racing game to date,

also you keep mentioing the 1999 episode 1 pod racer, but there have been several star wars racing game over the years, other examples are racer arcade, super bombad racing, and racer revenge, theres a few more

Very different. Whereas the original was a sort of fantasy sim and the main difference in race style came from the track, this is a roguelite arcade racer with light combat mechanics. Not so much combat that it could be considered like most arcade racers, but it has more combat mechanics than arcade racers that didn't go in for car combat usually do. The build system makes the way you play very different. Speed is also higher than original games.
