How long have you played? There is a lot more to it than just holding boost to win unless you're on the easiest difficulty?

I picked up a time trial and the first scenario and the game doesn't tell you at all how to do things. I don't have time to start campaign because work so maybe it's in there?

No, it'll mean that you have to fight to maintain your lead. You're playing on a difficulty that's too easy. I found Ace difficulty to be tougher than online opponents at this point!

I'd say that every rally sim I've played is the real Dark Souls of racing games. Those things are brutal. Usually much harder than Dark Souls actually.

Play the first race of the campaign and most things will be explained.

But you get a lot of different abilities randomly as upgrades later, like bombs, and they will be explained as you get them.

I'm not very good, but I like the difficulty so far. Feels like something to improve at.
