A side scroller mode is plannned! The adventure mode will be in much focus once the main part of the game is complete which is maknig the game playable. I also think a character creation would we fantastic however it could draw away from the "Indie" sense of the game? i dunno, we'll see. :)
I'd respectfully disagree on drawing away from the Indie sense of the game though with a character creator, considering created characters seem about as indie as you can get (considering creations aren't part of famous IPs unless the creator deems it to be).
You could also go the same route Smash did with the Mii Fighter, having a few strict fighting styles only the created characters can use, giving people incentive to play the other characters which will have their own unique moves.
At the end of the day I'm glad to hear Side Scrolling campaign is planned, and I look forward to see what happens as this game evolves!
