when i start up the game and click on "play official" it comes up with "you are running an outdated games version, please relaunch your steam client to check for updates" but its fully updated.

try verifying the cache? maybe try playing unoffical, where the servers could be older ones

They have tried all that. Alot of people with this problem, which most likely means WC have dropped linux and mac support for this mod/game. But until any official word is out, i can't say for sure.
