Listen to Requiem from the game, and compare it to Requiem on Rose Crimson. Hands down, OST version is better, and heartrending. (Original was still sad, fully orchestrated version is just T_T)
Other great tracks, too, like dreamenddischarger(which was sadly never used in the anime, but exists in a great remix on the Anime OST), and worldenddominator(the opposite of DED, a remixed version was used in the anime, but it DOESN'T appear on the OST, which bugs the crap out of me)
What the anime was great at was... peaking my interest on the story... fast! These visual novels are amazing, but very slow-paced, and very talky. What the anime managed is give a (very brief) summary of the overall events, with less characterization and story, but the general setup.
From the anime, I went to the visual novels, and finally read the manga. The manga strikes a really good balance between the visual novel and the anime, with much more content than the anime, and still not as dense as the visual novel. It also explains things further following the main theory of what happened (at least what the manga -and I- consider canon).
One good thing we can agree on the anime is the opening

Now if you want a bad adaptation for games/novels like this... Go watch Danganronpa. That's unbelievably bad.
Yeah agreed. I had this "luck" to watch Danganronpa after playing the game so i knew what's going on. But some people watch that anime without knowledge of the game and then ask me "How can You say Danganronpa is great, i just watched anime and its mediocre at best".
They do not understand game is like 1000% better :(
True that! 13 episodes for a 30ish hour long game is a bad idea to begin with ;_; It had such a potental... :c
Oh my god! YES! I've recently watched the Live Action as well.... ah so baaaaaaaad >.<
I really liked the opening theme, but they should make a new anime adaptation.
I've watched it with some random English subtitles and one of the names were translated as "Bank from the child" so... imagine my frustration lol.
Of course because I saw the anime first, i was surprised about the games but either way, it got me interested in the story and the lore behind all the characters (Beatrice in her many forms being my favorite). In my opinion it wasn't that bad. I LOVED the opening theme, the Beatrice vs. Virgillia battle i absolutely love and want to do that sort of action in my own original writing. There are things to like about it, but of course it does have one of those 'play the game to get the full story' type endings and feels incomplete unless you were either a fan of the game prior to watching the anime OR if you're using the anime as a gateway to get into the series (in my case, i just so happened to stumble upon it accidentally after looking at the Higurashi anime death scenes).
I think the anime works best as a way to get people interested in the story, but as far as feeling complete goes, it feels very rushed and it's pretty much required you play the games to get the full story.
