I believe people should be warned - DO NOT watch Anime.
Anime adaptation is total abomination, please stay away from it and don't ruin Your image about Umineko.

The soundtrack was probably the only good thing from it. The OP was done by the same person that actually did the VN OPs, and fits well(even hints at the truth behind Beato and the witches). ED was hilariously over the top and great. All of the actual soundtrack music was either original tracks that still fit the atmosphere of Umineko well, or beautifully reorchestrated versions of VN songs. Look up Umineko Rose Crimson, the soundtrack.

Listen to Requiem from the game, and compare it to Requiem on Rose Crimson. Hands down, OST version is better, and heartrending. (Original was still sad, fully orchestrated version is just T_T)

Other great tracks, too, like dreamenddischarger(which was sadly never used in the anime, but exists in a great remix on the Anime OST), and worldenddominator(the opposite of DED, a remixed version was used in the anime, but it DOESN'T appear on the OST, which bugs the crap out of me)

I watched it because I liked the OP (after hearing it on osu!). Knowing nothing about the series (other than reading the description on MyAnimeList), it wasn't terrible, though definitely seemed incomplete. At the very least, the concept seemed interesting enough to get me to check out the VN to read the story in full.

I watched it when it first came out in summer of 2009 cuz i was a fan of higurashi. I was a wee freshman at the time finishing his first year of high school (Beatrice!!!! Why must you laugh at me as Im feeling so old!!!). I felt very confused at the 2nd half of the Anime. The final episode just ends after the climax. No resolution. I doubt we'll see a season 2. The anime sold terribly in dvd sales.

I very much enjoyed the anime back in the day and it intrigued me enough to warrant looking into and ultimately importing the original games, but in hindsight I can certainly recognize its flaws.

I also enjoyed the anime greatly. I agree it's not as half as good or the visual novel or the MANGA, which is actually really really good.

What the anime was great at was... peaking my interest on the story... fast! These visual novels are amazing, but very slow-paced, and very talky. What the anime managed is give a (very brief) summary of the overall events, with less characterization and story, but the general setup.

From the anime, I went to the visual novels, and finally read the manga. The manga strikes a really good balance between the visual novel and the anime, with much more content than the anime, and still not as dense as the visual novel. It also explains things further following the main theory of what happened (at least what the manga -and I- consider canon).

I heard the Manga wasn't good ether but oh well.

One good thing we can agree on the anime is the opening

Anime was not "that" bad imo. It just wasn't finished... we needed a second season or even more because this story is very very complex, especially after Question Arcs... holy hell. I really liked the art style of this anime not gonna lie.

Now if you want a bad adaptation for games/novels like this... Go watch Danganronpa. That's unbelievably bad.

Yeah agreed. I had this "luck" to watch Danganronpa after playing the game so i knew what's going on. But some people watch that anime without knowledge of the game and then ask me "How can You say Danganronpa is great, i just watched anime and its mediocre at best".

They do not understand game is like 1000% better :(

Oh no, I know one much much worse. Corpse Party was s××t compared to the games. Rushed pacing, misinterpreted the games as "torture porn" and mindless violence just cuz the games has gore. If you thought ether Umineko or Danganronpa were bad in the Corpse Party ova they didn't bother to explain anything or did a terrible job doing so.

True that! 13 episodes for a 30ish hour long game is a bad idea to begin with ;_; It had such a potental... :c

Actually the live action is a lot better than the ova lol

There are several major plot inconsistencies in the anime. The game became unsolvable, you'll not be able to find a culprit.

I really liked the opening theme, but they should make a new anime adaptation.

I've watched it with some random English subtitles and one of the names were translated as "Bank from the child" so... imagine my frustration lol.
It was actually the anime that got me into the games.

Of course because I saw the anime first, i was surprised about the games but either way, it got me interested in the story and the lore behind all the characters (Beatrice in her many forms being my favorite). In my opinion it wasn't that bad. I LOVED the opening theme, the Beatrice vs. Virgillia battle i absolutely love and want to do that sort of action in my own original writing. There are things to like about it, but of course it does have one of those 'play the game to get the full story' type endings and feels incomplete unless you were either a fan of the game prior to watching the anime OR if you're using the anime as a gateway to get into the series (in my case, i just so happened to stumble upon it accidentally after looking at the Higurashi anime death scenes).

I think the anime works best as a way to get people interested in the story, but as far as feeling complete goes, it feels very rushed and it's pretty much required you play the games to get the full story.

Yeah, a lot of Japanese movies get bad English subs from people from China or Hong Kong most of the time a month or two after its release because it's much harder for English speaking people to get a hold of them. I heard horror stories about subtitles for the Fatal Frame movie having a horrid translation. Lucky for me I don't need subtitles. 5 years of self teaching Japanese with video games is doing me wonders now days.
