UI suggestion - Please show WHY can't I Realign/Coup!

Just started playing this game today, and having played TS only once in physical form, i.e. not knowing the rules that well, I constantly ran into "Trying to make a Coup but the game won't let me for some unexplained reason!". Clicking clicking, Coup Coup, Realignment, Relaignment. . . NOTHING WORKS IN THIS ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GAME! (was how I felt).
I can see I am not alone in this as evident by this other thread from just a few days ago:

Finally, after reading about the Nato card here: https://twilightstrategy.com/2012/03/12/nato/ - I realized my frantic clicking wasn't working PROBABLY due to Defcon being the wrong level.
Is this mentioned under the Green ? mark in the game? No of course not! Sigh.. .

Developers: Can you PLEASE add an explanation to WHY my frantic clicking on every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ country in Europe trying to make a Coup doesn't amount to anything? This is HIGHLY frustrating to play when not heavily familiar with the rules. A lot more hand-holding would be nice.
(I'm talking mainly about Single Player vs AI here. I can understand some limitation on the guidance when playing against real players).

(I also Played Containment https://twilightstrategy.com/2012/03/20/containment/ - as the US Player as my Headline in the first Turn and had it resolve with adding 1 influence only once during the Turn. I guess there is some rule there I'm also missing. Perhaps Using "Trigger Event" to force USSR to do it's thing first makes the effect go away? but I would really like the App to hold my hand better even here).

There is a marker next to regions that cannot be coupled/realigned due to Defcon.

Containment cannot increase a card above 4 OPs. It doesn't add influence, just increases OP value. There is no bug that would cause Containment to not work properly.

click the top, top right defcon bar and it says under defcon status numbers when/where no coup or realignment attempts are no longer permitted

may be worth watching a couple youtubes on how to play, i've found them to be great and although generally about physical game, there really is no difference
