Lair of the Stupid Level Design i.e. Blind Ones
I forgive my 10 year old self for basically giving up on this game due to horrifically bad level design. Whoever design the level of "Lair of the Blind Ones" I hope they never designed another game again. It's horrifically bad. I guess in a way this level is what it would be like to be blind and unable to find your way out of a nightmare maze. It's hard to believe around the same time as this game, games like Half Life were coming out. It's proof that the poor level design is not a result of being a game of the 90s but just bad game development.

Even with PC controls and more modern HD graphics I cannot solve the missing two thermal vents. I found one of the two nearby the underground waterfalls but I am missing a key to open the gate. And I have no idea where the third one is located.

True even with the simplified level design in this remastered it still sucks. In the original there were more twist, turns and dead ends that just about every one including myself quit at this level.

One of the best levels in all of gaming I beat it the other day in less than a half an hour. Creepy as hell beats out most dedicated horror games. What the op is saying is not true. Its a master of claustrophobic design and invokes true fear of nature. Probably the greatest level in the whole turok series.

Completely anti everything the op is saying. Half life is a trash hallway game.

lol. lmao. The complexity is what I loved the Lair of the Blind Ones for! Heck, I absolutely LOATHE the simplified levels they forced upon you in the remaster with no option to play the original layouts. And there still doesn't exist a mod that would restore the original levels... I'm really considering just re-installing the original PC edition for this exact reason, although it can be a bit rough on Windows 10 (the patch that exists is meant for Vista/7).

I finally got through it but it was brutal.
Half-Life was so linear it was impossible to get lost. That's not a good example.
Unreal and Halo are probably good examples of linearity mixed with exploration.

ah yes Unreal..♥♥♥♥♥♥ legendary. what a game.

it was not as complex as turok 2 though. Turok 2 was a lot more complex in its level design. none of that linear bs. which makes it so good.

Yes. Unreal was much more linear, but it still encouraged exploration too.
Glad to see some appreciation of Unreal. It's often overlooked for some reason. I think people try to use the Stinger and Eightball against the fast moving Skaarj then get frustrated when they can't hit anything.

Trash is an exaggeration, but yes, it is very linear, and I've always considered it lesser to its contemporaries.

sounds like a skill issue OP

Modern linear games with quest markers have bastardized the genre, that's why Kaiser had to simplify the levels but when it comes to the legacy of video games in general, that was the worst decision ever.
