Turok 2 on N64, frame rate hits 30 FPS.
https://youtu.be/Cj_5O6RImy0
Just to make sure I am not crazy I counted the number of frames for a second of video in various parts. In both videos the frame rate is often in the teens and rarely it seems does the game hit 30 FPS.
Reading the comments of people who have the N64 version corroberates my findings.
Perhaps your system is not powerful enough to emulate the game faster than 15 FPS. Or maybe you used some speed hack/s that produce that result.
Why would over clocking the N64 mess with Turok 2's logic speed? If Turok 2 is like Turok Dinosaur Hunter, game logic is not tied to the frame rate.
Tried emulation myself. https://ibb.co/cfRAD5
I dont think that you can translate the videos framerate over to the actual games framerate.
I'm on a 6 core cpu with Hyperthreading running at 4ghz paired with a gtx 770, my system should not be any issue at all.
Noch hacks either, just fired up Project64 2.3 with it's standard settings.
Maybe i should try another version then.
The complex graphics and level design were pretty much wasted on the n64's hardware. This remaster version is awesome at 60 fps though.
I did it back in 1998 and did several times since then, on the n64.
I say it's a question of skill.
Back in 2000 you got skill if you managed to pwn in Q3 with a ping of 100.
In 2004 you got skill if played through FarCry with an average fps of 25.
Nowadays people are whining about inputlags at fluid 60 fps.
It seems we now have a gaming culture where someone rather complains, than to sharpen his skill. I call that ridiculous.
Challenge: Play through this game with the crosshair turned off, then you got it.
Tricky thought, but doesn't count :P
But yet again it proves, creative thinking counts as skillset too and makes a game more playable if needed.
I am currently uploading video a where i play the first half of Port of Adia with the fps limited to 15, HUD and crosshair disabled.
I have to admit it's normal difficulty and i die once at the end of the video, but still it should be enough to make the point that 60 fps are enough for this game to be playable.
And if thats not enough i do hard on 5 fps.
Thats incorrect. Nobody wanted to play Unreal Tournament 2004 to play with just 60fps.
With Netspeed set greater than 10000 you can go over 90fps and the game is even smoother then. And thats really noticable. Especially with its mostly hitscan weapons its even more important..

This may be case, but question was if Turok 2 is unplayable with 60 fps and the answer to that is no.
Even if more frames may increase the responsiveness, even UT2k4 can be played with less than 60 fps.
Of course in competitive league situations more might give you just the edge, yet i would even more tend to limit the fps in such scenarios, as it really separates the wheat from the chaff and it's the pure skill that counts than.
As i said, in Quake 1-3 you noticed a real pro by even hitting with the rail on higher pings.
You had to learn to predict the enemies movement.
