Irritating enemies
Am I the only one here who finds the enemies in this game really annoying?

The Raptoid, which moves so fast and gesticulates so much that it is hard to tell when it is finally dying; the Endtrail, which is not only very accurate with its weapons but also can take a ridiculous amount of punishment (I know you can one-shot it, but its head is so small compared to the rest of its body); the freaking Compsognathus, which are so small and fast that there just does not seem to be an effective way to deal with them without taking damage or wasting ammo; the motherflipping Flesh-Eaters and their quasi-hitscan HOMING PROJECTILES... I do not recall the Turok 1's bestiary being such a pain!

I mean, I really want to love this game: in many ways, it feels like such a massive improvement over its predecessor - which I liked, despite the endless enemy respawn - and I do not want to fault the team behind the remaster, as they can only do so much with the source material... but daaang! I made it through the first two levels and so far there just does not seem to be a single enemy I enjoy fighting.

What am I doing wrong? :S

Well, I think most people love the fighting aspect of the game mostly. Maybe it's just not your game, OR give it a time once you get more interesting weapons (Shredder, Plasma Rifle, Bore etc.) and see how you feel then.

Compies are just annoying yes. The inability to dodge getting blood thrown at you by dead things was stupid. But the rest I always thought were well-varied. So many games before and since, enemies take set amounts of damage, here if you hit non-vital parts you could end up doing it all day. Like those arm guns, those will deflect quite a bit. But then sometimes they just go down anyway. Or if not, then it's time to bust out the explosive shredder. That never takes long.

And besides now we have responsive mouse aim. Move, pick spots, switch weapons. Combat is much deeper than it looks and far ahead of it's time.

I'm the complete opposite, I enjoy fighting all the enemies, it's part of why I love this game so much.

I Agree with "Combat is much deeper than it looks and far ahead of it's time." For a N64 game Turok 2 was a miracle.

I guess my main problem with the game is that most of the creatures I have encountered throughout the first two levels feel like higher-tier enemies. I mean, those Endtrails really remind me of the Alien Grunt from Half-Life, except all I have to fight them is a bow, a pistol and a shotgun - which have ridiculously low ammunition capacity. I also got my hand on the MAG60, which already is a step in the right direction, but still, I feel sorely underpowered at the moment...

The small enemies are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terrible. Especially the spiders. Who thought infinately respawning spiders would be a good idea?

Okay, I got to the Death Marshes and managed to acquire the Shredder, the Plasma Rifle and the Grenade Launcher. Now we are talking! Also, the Purr-Lins are much more fun to fight than the Dinosoids. Still annoying that I had to wait for Level 3 to start getting the good stuff, but whatever.

Forgot spiders. Though the infinite respawn thing happens in one whole spot. And only after you did what you're there for. I forgot they were infinite(and had I known what they did with the mantid mite hives I'd have thought they'd eliminate it too), and so I killed as many as I could before I died. Lasted a good 10 minutes, got maybe 250 or so.

Anyway I say keep at it. The curve sounds right. Try to catch a few unaware here and there.

edit: Late post but looks like you're seeing what I thought. I actually did 3 right after 1 this time, never done that before. Then I remembered I never had a shredder for lv 2. Made things easier I guess.

Explosive guns might be the answer. They always deal the same damage wethever you are hitting a leg or the head, and the plasma rifle counts as an explosive-type gun (but the sniper mode doesnt)
JohnnyTheWolf Mar 21, 2017 @ 11:30am
I noticed the Endtrail can take up to two Plasma Rifle shots to die - unless I shoot them in the head. However, Sniper Mode seems to be a bit buggy right now - zooming in and out with the Mouse Wheel does not seem to be working very well.

I tried shooting them on the head and I havent managed to kill them in less than two shots (likewise, I also shot them on the arms and legs and they always took 2 shots) The only exception was the one that spawns on the beginning area of the game, and thats because he already takes some damage from the explosion that blows up the wall.

The bow can one-shot an endtrail. I also really enjoy using the tek arrows on the hordes of compies. I think the endtrail might be my favorite enemy in the whole game.

I really like the enemies in this game. The thing is that if they moved in a more predictable pattern then the enemies would be too easy because most of them just run after you. That can get really boring.

Glad to see you're having more fun now. I think it gets more fun the more you play. Enemies here are smart and challenging. If they were slower and had bad aim, it would be too easy and no fun. They're supposed to make you learn their behaviour and moves, and they're supposed to make you move around to dodge attacks. Endtrails are dangerous at first, but I mean, they're supposes to. They're supposed to be a threat. But Endtails' projectile gets a lot easier to dodge eventually, which gives a good mastering feeling. Trust me: more dangerous enemies appear later on ;)

But summary: They're hard and smart, but you have monsterous weapons. Learning their moves and dodge them is key :)

The most annoying enemies in this game are those friggin pesky little dinosaurs that attack you in groups

oh...and spiders too >:(
