I heard that the pc soundtrack is shorter than the N64 one because they cut out alot of it for some reason?

Could someone please help me sort out every difference between the soundtracks and possible region differences out there?

I really want too know all there is about it =)

So which are we getting? Uncut full quality from that Violence Killer CD or what? Surely the devs were able to track that down.
Both, you'll be able to switch between the two.

No, both of those are tradeoffs, N64 = Lower quality, PC = Cut short tracks. He was saying that Violence Killer soundtrack was high quality and uncut. That is what should be in the remaster.

Gonna go against everyone and say the PC version sounds MUCH better, why?

The nintendo 64 version is the same exact as the PC one.
Only difference is that the n64 version is extremely compressed, hence why people think it has more "bass".

You can barely hear the backing instruments on the n64 version, that if you can hear them at all.

Suggestion : Stop using low quality speakers and headphones to listen to music, also...
bass isn't everything, Audio fidelity >>>> bass.

There is tone & scale difference between the PC & N64 Port of Adia tracks.

Worry not folks, Steven Kick has confirmed in a recent interview that Turok 2 will have the option for both PC or N64 soundtracks ! (mentioned in an earlier post)

Sorry, but that's just not true.

Yes, the N64 version is compressed to play nice on its sound hardware, but the PC music was rebuilt from arranged samples and uses different instruments than the N64 mixes. Port of Adia is the clearest example, as most of the instrument samples in that are notably different between the two mixes, but the rest have differences if you listen to them side-by-side.

To me, the ideal version of the soundtrack would be the actual uncompressed version of the N64 mixes before they were shoved through the N64 sound hardware. I doubt they even exist anymore, but I can dream.

I call BS.

N64 used tracker (basically midi) - it generated music from built-in instruments. There wasn't any audio tracks and thus it wasn't compressed, it was just that - N64 just played music from notes.

PC version had those same midi rendered into audiowave and then converted to audio-cd format. And it isn't even good conversion with half of the instruments sound way off.

So the actual difference was - N64 played/generated music on it's own instruments from notes designed for N64.
And PC version played record of notes for N64 played on wrong instruments. And then it was cut because it was too large. I heard japanese version handled audio the right way because it was released later (and we all know that Turok 2 PC was rushjob).
That's why N64 music was better.

I personally didn't like the PC soundtrack. ESPECIALLY Port of Adia. They made it sound more upbeat in my opinion. Like everything was fine and dandy and you were just killing the invading Dinosoids. With the N64 version, it sounded like those same Dinosoids took over and now you're evacuating the city to prevent total devastation. Really shows that the tone that the music is in can really force, or with the PC version remove, the mood that the level presents.

While that's true, the music still had to be compressed to fit onto the limits of the N64 sound hardware. To give an idea of what the limits of the hardware do to the music, this is the uncompressed N64 music from Goldeneye and Perfect Dark that was released by their composer Grant Kirkhope.

To clear this up, the Violence Killer soundtrack uses the exact same mix and instruments as the PC release. It just has the full tracks without the time cuts the original PC ones had.

can hear how someone decided to fade out the song before it reaches it's climax

While you can hear that this one being 24 seconds longer retains the the songs climax

Goosebumps! Can't wait to listen to it ingame again! :-)
