N64 controller support?
I know this game works with an xbox controller, but was wondering if anyone know if it could (or even should) be played with a usb N64 controller?

On the subject of this, what happened to lookspring? I wonder if they'll be adding it back down the road. Also, the option for aim assist (to help with gamepad) would be nice.

Also OP, you should be fine to use a USB controller with it. I don't think it uses Xinput specifically.
Lookspring and aim assist are both built in already.

Lookspring option is toggleable under hobbing options.
Aim assist is on by default, and functions very similar to the n64 release, but can be toned down via the precise aiming option under gameplay.

That thing was better suited towards platformers/racing/everything else except fps games. God forbid they could have added another analog stick for camera aim like the ps1 did. That system had better control schemes for fps games. If it wasn't for this version of Turok I would never have played this awesome game. Thank You Night Dev.

You know.... If it werent for the N64 controller, then there would have never been a duelshock controller at all. Nintendo had the first controller with a stick, and the rumble pack. All Sony did was make an improvement with it.

The N64 controller was near perfect for many games. I Dunno why it gets the hate it has. The D pad was used for some games with sidecrolling or controlled better with the D pad. The Stick was used for more 3D games.

With Turok it was used rather well IMO.

I strongly disagree with you on most of those points. Firstly, Nintendo64 was not the first system to have a analog stick they had them way back on the nes. It was a joystick but still. And like you said, the ps1 improved upon it. Yeah exactly, they fixed what was sh*t-awful about that controller. Because the N64 controller was terrible. The controller was a piece of sh*t for fps games. I still stand by that.

Wut? The analog stick is already used for camera aim, not movement. Movement is on your c buttons, y'know, something that actually feels like buttons on a keyboard, something appropriate to play a FPS.

Oh hey, thanks! I assumed the precise option just made hitboxes smaller, never knew there was still some minor aim assist going on with it. Also, now I have to go look for that lookspring option, I want to see how it feels after all these years.

EDIT: No lookspring in the headbobbing options. )':

Well yeah they had joysticks, but not the way that the controller really used it, as a thumbstick rather then a huge joystick. It really was revolutionary and a new trick. technically your correct though :claugh:

Duh wut??? Yeah one stick for camera and c-buttons for movement is a good control scheme for a controller. 'Cause comparing a pos primitive controller is the same as a keyboard? Really? Yeah genius. Also, I am right handed and the analog stick is used by my left hand and the c-buttons for my right. It doesn't work for me, I don't use the mouse with my left hand obviously, so that is why I hate the damned thing. Like I said, one for movemment and one for camera you know like PS1 or other modern controllers. PS1 did it right. Your statement to me means nothing sorry. Still a POS contoller on a mediorce system with only a handful of decent games to play imo.

It's there.
It's named "adjust view to slopes" which is exactly what lookspring does.

And the default aim assist isn't minor, its massive super auto aim like n64. If you turn on precise, it's more minor yea. You can't fully disable auto aim, but eh it's turok 1, was never designed around headshots or anything anyways so its fine imo.

I use my real N64 controllers (on which, I've replaced all of the joysticks) for my PC along with an N64 controller USB adapter. It works great on Project64. Although, for this version of Turok, I use my XboxOne controller.

The N64 controller was decent for it's day, but there is no way it's the goto controller for FPS games. Xbox 360/One is the best for controller for FPS games in my opinion.

However, keyboard/mouse is the end all and be all for accuracy(or in my case N64 controller and mouse). I play Quake Live and Star Trek Voyager:EF with a N64 controller(w/Adaptoid) in my lap(left hand) using the d-pad for movement and shoulder button to jump with the mouse in the right hand to freelook/aim.

I guess the above comes from my console background then getting into PC FPS games in the 1999 time frame. That N64 d-pad makes strafe jumping in quake engine games a breeze.

...ah, I see where I miscommunicated, haha. I mean lookspring as in where vertical camera positioning is locked to how far you push the analog stick up and down (ex. when you're not moving the analog stick, you're looking directly forward, when you push it all the way up, you're immediately looking at the sky, etc). As far as I know, this feature isn't in here.
