Turok
This kind of missing graphics etc is why I really hate remasters/ports
They're never authentic to the original. Sometimes they're downright bugged. Even this beloved Turok source port that everyone claims is a great game, is pretty bad when you actually know what the game SHOULD look like:

It's sad and makes me glad I have the original Nintendo 64 hardware and cartridge to enjoy it as it was meant to be in its original form, plus can always emulate it flawlessly with pixel accurate plugins.

Removal of godawful lensflare is nothing but a good thing.
Kurai Shidosha Sep 20, 2020 @ 9:52pm
But this lens flare is fine right? https://i.imgur.com/VvLqYte.png

Admit it, either the developer intentionally removed the sun's lens flare or he half arsed modified lens flares thus missing the ones from the guns. No matter which one of the two it is, it's bad and further proves my point that remasters/ports are always garbage that don't represent the original game's intended work.

And how about those player shadows? Do you like not having your own shadow for all the pillar jumping and platforming in the game? The player shadow is meant to serve as an aid to help you understand where you are physically in the world in a way that just looking down alone doesn't fully convey. The shadow gives you a precise location of your physical hitbox so you know how close you are to the edge without relying on the ugly map overlay.

Can't say as I ever used the shadow or looked down. Just like in the n64 version, I used the automap for jump timing.

Never even realized it was gone, and, frankly, don't care that it is.

As for the other graphic changes: Also don't care.

This was never intended to be a 1:1 port. If it was, there wouldn't be a handful of map changes to go along with the graphic changes.

You want vanilla? Go play your n64 copy. ♥♥♥♥ knows I haven't touched my copy since this version came out. having an actual framerate and not having to use that godawful controller more than makes up for anything else.
Kurai Shidosha Sep 20, 2020 @ 10:07pm
How about the texture quality drops present in that first screenshot comparison? You like that ugly blocky texture compared to the smooth and detailed one on the N64?

What a defeatist and pointless attitude. "I don't care, go away." Why did you even waste both of our time replying to this thread then?
Seamus Sep 20, 2020 @ 10:36pm
It's the same texture. It's a difference in filtering.

This version of kex doesn't support the 3 point filtering the n64 uses. Iirc that wasn't added until doom 64.

Seriously. You want vanilla? Go play your n64.
Kurai Shidosha Sep 20, 2020 @ 11:05pm
How's about actually putting in the effort to improve on the original in every way? Not downgrade certain visuals and miss others?

You know it doesn't just end with visual glitches right? How's about the inability to look up or down while climbing walls and ladders? In the N64 original, you can look down and behind you, but in this version you can't. That's a gameplay downgrade. But I'm sure you'll reply with "I don't care" and that's supposed to nullify the fact that I FREAKING DO. Go away dude you're annoying as hell.
Seamus Sep 20, 2020 @ 11:11pm
Woo, more complaining about features I'd never even noticed.

The game runs and plays objectively better than the n64 version or the godawful original pc port.

You not liking changes doesn't make it a bad port.

It's not my fault you're a casual who doesn't actually notice things in games. Trash taste.

Wow, it must be nice being back in 2012.

What's it like living before the world went to complete crap?

kinda disappointing, i like sun lensflares and player shadows
maybe they'll be back in some update?
IceCreamSandwich Sep 21, 2020 @ 10:39am
They even changed the font in the HUD.

Given how old the port is, I doubt it. They stopped updating it a long time ago and have moved on to other things. Frankly I'm over it and am going to just happily stick to the native original with all effects and details intact with the higher quality textures too.

Once again: It's the same textures.

It's a difference in filtering style.

For what? Turok? I don't know since I spent the vast majority of my time playing the Nintendo 64 version over the last 21+ years. It didn't take me long on PC to notice how many downgrades there are.
