Turok
Level editor won't load - "running" issue
Upon starting Turok and selecting the level editor in the Steam prompt (or right clicking on the Turok game in my library and selecting Launch Game Editor), I get a another prompt from Steam indicating that it is starting the program. The prompt goes away, and the word "running" appears next to the Turok game in my library, but no actual program loads, even after several minutes wait. I cannot stop whatever process is happening, or run Turok normally, unless I actually reboot my computer.

I have tried moving the game's install files to Steam's location on my C:\ drive, but it has not fixed the issue. Can somebody help me troubleshoot this?

We've updated the editor logging to be even more verbose. If you're still having problems, run it again and repost stderr.txt here (found in the install folder).

quasardw,

Here are the contents of the stderr.txt file after running the level editor after opting into the public beta:

kex::cSystem->Init()
kex::cTimer->Init()
kex::cCvars->Init()
kexObject::Init()
kex::cInput->Init()
kex::cPakFiles->Init()
kex::cPakFiles->LoadZipFile(KEX_KPF_FILE)
kex::cPakFiles->LoadUserFiles()
kexRHI::Initialize()

Do you happen to have a "progs" folder in your Turok directory?

There is no progs folder in my Turok directory.

Hmm, well we've updated it again. If the issue is what we think it is, it should now produce a more coherent error message. Report back if so, and what the error message is.

Sorry Edward850, but nothing has changed for me since these updates. My stderr.txt file has the same contents as before, and the editor does not load, no matter the method.

I appreciate you and other members of the team trying assist me, but I'm thinking that my particular case is so isolated that there's not much point in trying to fix the issue. My computer is on its last legs and needs a flatten + reinstall pretty badly, anyways - doubtless there's some problem deep at the registry level causing this issue.

Thanks again for trying to help me. And thanks to the you and the rest of the team making the Turok games avaialble to play again on PC!

I have the same issue and after using the public beta my stderr.txt file says: "Error - GL shader version 140 is below minimum requirements (150 or above is required).". Is there a way to fix this? Since i don't know too much about computers i'll gladly accept any help or clarification!

That means the renderer can't initialise with your provided graphics card drivers. You will need to update them if at all possible. While the renderer is the same between the game and the editor, the editor only uses OpenGL, while the game uses DX11/10 by default, which some older GPUs and their drivers seem to support over GLSL.

Is this still getting worked on?
There are still people with problems.

It runs the task, takes up resources, no errors, but it does not open a render window. I've updated everything.

It worked earlier. It stopped working after I updated my video drivers.

I''ll try doing a full reinstallation. But, it would be easier if things would just work...

It seems you need older drivers for it to work. If I install the latest dirvers it will stop working.
This needs more work.

This has something to do with the new drivers, in my case. I'll try and bother AMD's Catalyst team with it. Try and figure it out somehow.
