How come trying to jump to the vines and stick is so hard?
This is driving me nuts. I can't seem to hold onto the climbable vine walls. As soon as I hit the wall he just falls. There seems to be a glitch where you can hold the jump as your facing the wall and kind of jump bounce up the wall. It's not always effective and takes time but it works. This isn't working however at a key spot where I need to climb a crazy tall vine wall after jumping towards it from a platform. It's so damn frustrating...

Strafe jump, every jump is made with strafe jumping.
It's like the second or third thing the tutorial teaches you.

Let go of the space bar before you hit the vines. You should "stick" to vine walls as soon as you hit them fully, so if you're still holding the space bar you'll just detach yourself and jump away.

You can keep jumping and angling yourself to climb up slightly faster, but it's much easier and safer to just hold W to climb straight up.

Thanks for the letting go of space part. I'll try to give that a shot. I've nearly given upon this, lol

Not working... If I let go of the space, he stops jumping forward and I fall to the death. I've gotten to the point of touching the damn vines and letting go and he still just falls and doesn't grab jack. This is so crazy how bad they designed this. Why the hell did it have to be this difficult?? It's like a game breaker for me at this point and I've come so far.

Once again, learn to strafe jump.
The game isn't that hard to master.

It sounds like you're pressing jump while on the vines, you don't need to do that, that detaches you from the vines. Just continue pressing forward and you'll move up, like how you did with he first vines in the game where you just keep holding forward to attach, move up, detach. The only jumping you should be doing is reaching the vines in the first place.

Can you post a screenshot of where you're stuck? I'd be happy to record a video of my keystrokes in that section to guide you.

You don't need to strafe jump to reach any main platforms in the game.

No, but it sure does make it easier, Ed. :steammocking:

letting go of space does not even stop the jump??? you can tap space for 1 frame input and you still do a full length jump

Hmm, I wonder if the fact that I re-assigned jump from space to "w" has anything to do with it... I also know all about strafe jumping. That's not the issue here, it's just grabbing those damn vines.

I'm at the end area of Ancient City where there are tons of pillars where you if you miss a jump you fall. All the way in the back of the area towards the left corner there is a giant vine wall to climb. Thus if you fall, you have to start back at the save point and jump all the damn pillars back to that point each time. I've done this like 20 times already with no luck, lol.

Brah, this comment just solved my entire issue. You had me thinking, how come when I jump the second I let go of my jump key (w), I immediately drop. It was because my forward and jump key were bound to "W", rofl.

Now that it's fixed, well first, I can't believe how far I've gone playing the game with it like that (give it a shot, no really, lol), and second, this just got too easy, lol.
I would never have come up with the idea that you specifically have to NOT jump in order for the climbing to work in level 3. especially when that wasn't the case in all previous wall climbing instances!!!

how did people (and yes, that includes me) even play games before the internet...
