Getting Leif's Friendship up.

How do I go about doing this? I've given him quite a few items just about everyday. Not sure if it works like Stardew Valley where you can only boost friendship once a day, but I've given him quite a bit as I previously stated. And so far only one item (demon hunter statue - not sure if I should have given this) has boosted his heart meter. What do I do?

talk to him. giving leif gifts is pretty pointless. talk about 10x a day.
