You should have read the pinned post about the CE version:
Limitations to this version:
- Can't rebind controls. (We are currently working on this one.)
- Isn't very easily moddable. (The game can handle new tiles and whatnot being added, but currently can't handle loading the files themselves due to changes in how we load things.)

I also play with mods that are a major part of the game for me, so not sure how that's gonna go. But definitely willing to try it if we get the third person view options. :)
so maybe im biased due to being on linux but i am very happy about this new version
There's nothing wrong with CE. Some people are just confused and are assuming that the main version of the game is somehow gone. It's not. I'm happy that more people can enjoy it with a less demanding version.
- The changes made to some features of the original game, Staxel, for Staxel CE (Staxel Console Edition), such as the removal of infinite worlds (now a single 512x512 island) and the replacement of additional farms with additional farm shacks (placed on the same farm), were made to accommodate Staxel CE for the Switch.
- Staxel CE is a little more lightweight in that the engine was remade in order to be portable across multiple platforms, unlike Staxel. Both games, more or less, function the same.
- Modding support for original Staxel is unchanged. Staxel CE is not officially supported (we can do things on our end as developers but is not sufficient for public use).
- Since Staxel CE was made to be portable we thought it would be nice for owners of Staxel on Steam to enjoy it as an alternative to the original game, especially for lower end computers.
- This is a free update that does NOT replace anything regarding the original Staxel. You have the option to play Staxel or Staxel CE whenever you like. If you do not like Staxel CE then you're free to play the original Staxel. If you enjoy Staxel CE more then you can play that instead.
- Staxel CE was also made available for Linux and Mac users. The original Staxel was not portable but owners of Staxel on Steam for Mac or Linux will get both the original Staxel and Staxel CE, however, only Staxel CE is supported for those operating systems (and is the game that will run when launched via Steam on those systems).
My concern is when you guys go to add something to the game, are you going to have to purposely hold it back to fit within Staxel CE so that both CE and Normal share the same update? Or do you guys plan on doing a watered-down update for the CE and a non-watered-down update for non-CE? Because if I am playing the non-CE game and I am having to put up with updates to the game that had to be held back or watered down due to trying to stay within CE limitations, that would suck.
I thought I read that somewhere. Great!
thanks for pointing this out. i myself also tried launching the game and it did show that there was an option to launch either version, along with mod manager, safe mode and the dedicated server terminal. thank you again for the clarification.
Don't buy the game? Oops!!!... I bought it for my boyfriend O_O.... WHAT DO I DO? We're having fun on it too! O_O
