How the smurf do you make money in this game?
I'm barely making any progress here, its way too grindy to make money -.-
At first play to make money, I would have guessed farming...
Nope. Prices to buy seeds and animal feed stay the same, I know its to stop people getting greedy and making money too easily but the market flooding mechanic reducing prices is too harsh. If you're not paying attention you could easily make a LOSS - for one example potato seeds bought at 25, potatoes selling for 19... I don't sell them that often and even when I do -
we're talking 20-30 tops. Between the days it takes to grow them and the people in town who should in theory be eating them, these people should be starving by now! x'D One suggested fix could be a reserve of x amount of items per villager to curb this crazy market flooding (which takes far too long to recover based on the number of days in a season.)

The recipes are too expensive for the money you make back and make no sense because its cheaper and less hassle to just buy the items you can craft with them from the shop.

Then I thought ok, pay for seed, buy seed maker and grow own seeds.
Nope - not even guaranteed 1 seed per crop sacrificed for seeds never mind the two worth sacrificing a crop for. Have you seen how many seeds you get from a tomato or strawberry?

Which leaves collecting shells, fishing and bug catching because they require no money other than to buy a bug net that isn't expensive and has infinite use. The problem with this is you don't get very much for them.

One improvement might be a "sale of the day" which shows you which items are most sought after and paying full price. The stalls outside the shops which sell animal feed/seeds would be nice if they had a sale once in a while, selling less than the main shop.

At the beginning you get cows which you can milk for a lot of money. I also found bughunting to actually be quite profitable (I think it's the blue butterflies).

Yeah but if you sell milk every day, the price goes down - cow food costs 250 a time, feeds a cow four days. While you still get profit its not a lot and continues going down.

It seems bug hunting is best money considering the time you need to wait around for fish, but even then you're not looking at the 5000 in a week to purchase furniture pieces :/

The price drop is being tuned and has been reduced in 1.1.23
A pricing rebalance is currently in the works too.

My cows seem to live off air, but then again I don't milk them either.

I've found a glitch with cows; if you place a chicken feeder near the barn (with next to no wall between) they eat the chicken feed instead of cow feed...

I got a bug net and caught a bunch of bugs and sold 'em. Seems to work for the start of the game.

Like the real world the big bucks are in... sand. 1 block sells for 6, you can easily get a few K with a days work. I guess eventually it runs out but by that time you'll have your own private island.

That'd work really well with one of my worlds; a large chunk of my world didn't spawn properly and is mostly beach.... x'D

I have found that finding unpolished fossils and refining them is quick and very profitable. Just head to the beach, gather tons of them, refine them with the polishing machine, and sell. (Keep in mind this only works if you have completed the dawn at the museum quest that you get when Vorlen appears.) I find I get 15000 in a day's work. I recommended waiting over night for the fossils to polish
sho's pearl mod and the gem workshop mod are good ways to make money too
