If I remember correctly, there is no intention from the developers to ever put combat into the game. It's designed to be a very casual/relaxing game and combat might disrupt that.

its a relaxing game. but its mod compatible so you might be able to do that ....

Mod it so if someone decides to attack an animal, bigger animals spawn in and instantly kill you for wanted to be violent in a farming game.

see i had thought of doing a ghost mod. so that ghosts attack you if you stay out too late. but that would just get annoying of course without a hp system they would have to do time damage maybe....

could possibly program a simple hp and damage system in the background for modders to toggle on and play with, considered modding in a snowball battle for xmas so that everyone could join and snowbattle if they wanted to :)
though if anyone else wanted to take credit for making the mod go ahead and take the idea im a slow worker anyways :P

You could perhaps mod something where getting hit will give a status effect, or where it teleports the player.

Kind of a shame there isn't any combat about the only thing this game seems to be missing. dungeons are such would be awesome to have but oh well.
