Do they have a use or do they just sell for more Petals after successfully growing them?

I could be wrong but from what I've seen so far they are only good for selling and cannot be used in recipies.

Putting them in a seed maker will give you 5-6 normal seeds. Was really hoping to get more gold seeds, and to not see this is a real bumer.

Shame, i was hoping to try and make food dishes using only Gold foods and get a MASSIVE gold bonus like in Stardew.

not quite sure things work like that yet, though it could be a neat suggestion +1 to that idea :)

Shame there isn't more to gold crops, though the extra cash is nice. It would probably be too much of an exploit for the reaper to give you just gold seeds from a gold crop, but a higher probability of them would be nice. One of the townsfolk mentioned gold crops, so maybe there's plans to make them quest items?

If thats the case, then I shall stock up on them. If not, then ill just sell them for now until a update/mod comes out to make them craftable into meals.

oh he only says he's heard of them but never seen, nothing too special or noteable. He's basically hinting the the player that they exsist ATM

Yeah, I'm mostly speculating that it might happen at some point in the future. At present it's just a 'Hey player, here's a tip!' kinda thing.

One of the town's people have asked me if eating a gold vegetable will give you gold teeth! So it would seem they've at least considered another advantage to gold vegetables (not necessarily gold teeth though, aha)
