The Follower is the bane of my existence

don't get me wrong he's hella cute but I keep running into the screamer because i'm ♥♥♥♥♥♥ scared of the follower I need some tips to keep him at bay, I am not yet finished with the game but a lot of people have finished it quickly. I'm on floor 3 for those wondering (yes Ik it gets significantly harder)
