Godot Engine

Godot Engine

Steam Deck is installing Windows version of Godot
I don't have any compatibility settings on or using any of the Godot betas in Godot Engine's properties, but it's downloading and running the Windows version. When I install it via the Discover app it works fine, but the Steam version has a "sad" version of the Godot icon on the taskbar, it's using Windows' filesystem (C:/...) and cannot open any project, but can run (as in the game project itself) fine, which is what's leading me to believe I've somehow installed the Windows version. The Discover app version uses the proper Linux filesystem (/home/...) and can both edit and run files properly.

When I go ahead and try to install it again, Steam even says I can download it faster via local files if I turn on my laptop (which was Windows 10 and Godot installed), so Steam is acting very sus about it.

How can I install it via Steam and force it to be the Linux version? I prefer it for the betas and just ease of access, since I have other software like Aseprite installed via Steam too.

Yeah I noticed this as well and am having trouble running projects. Checking in the Steam directories I see godot.windows.opt.tools.64.exe. No clue why they would distribute the Windows version to steam decks.

I just noticed this myself after installing Godot, and I remembered that one tip I had found for something else, and tried it myself, and sure enough, it immediately worked.

What I did:
- "Manage" (gear icon on right side of Godot "Play" or "Launch" button)
- "Properties"
- "Compatibility"
- Enable (checkmark)
- Scroll to bottom
- "Steam Linux Runtime 1.0 (scout)"
- Close Properties window
- "Update" (was "Play" or "Launch" before the change)

Afterwards to verify it worked:
- "Manage"
- "Manage" (yes, again, the sub-menu item)
- "Browse local files"

Now, in the file explorer pop-up window, you should see that the file changed from a ".exe" extension to simply no extension (also depends on your file explorer settings)

File name (for me): "godot.x11.opt.tools.64"

Basically, you should see an obvious difference regarding that specific file after the above changes

If you're reading this in the future, where it might not work anymore, please don't be surprised, and try selecting a different Proton version (if available)! I hope this is fixed by then, of course...

Anyway, I hope this helps anyone else that might've had the same issue! :winter2019happyyul:

I'm new to Godot myself, and I can't wait to get into game dev or similar finally (and hopefully for reals this time)! :slugskull:
