Grab the official file directly from https://www.godotengine.org/download and use the "console" executable; it may at least tell you what broke, instead of just crashing to the desktop.

It's probably an issue with Vulkan on your system; make sure your GPU has Vulkan support, and maybe upgrade the drivers.

Are there any error messages?

Are you able to see the Project Manager screen when you start Godot, or does it crash right away?

Sounds like you should probably stick with compatibility mode, then.

"Compatibility mode" in Godot 4 is just OpenGL. It's not horrible, just not quite as advanced. 3D is definitely still an option, and arguably better; you're not the only one having issues with Vulkan.

you know what it feels like? it feels like i got in a car accident, lost both of my legs and you come and whisper in my ear: well you can run really fast on prosthetic legs. like, thank you bruh

I mean, if the new legs are free... run with it?

I tried going into the Godot site and downloading the dev version. Despite not being stable, I seem to have less issues with it than 4.2.

I can't see the error as I have no access to what you're doing, but I don't suppose this is for a mobile game/app? I know people say Godot 4.x isn't very optimized for mobile.

Yep, that definitely sounds like a Vulkan problem. What GPU are you using?
