How do I set the Godot Engine language to English
The recent update to Godot has set the language of Godot to my Windows language. I want to use it in English as I was before. Where are the language settings?

I have googled this, but all searches return hits for programming languages, not human languages.

OK, for anyone else having this problem, here are the steps you need to take. I've referred to the options by the position and order they appear on the screen as they will be different in any language, and you may not even understand the language if you are trying to set it to English:

  1. Start Godot Engline. The easiest way is to double-click a project if you don't understand the options in the list.
  2. Open the settings menu, which is located at the top of the screen on the far right. Select the first entry in the menu, which is called Editor Settings in English. This is next to the whirly circle thing.
  3. In the next screen, select the second entry in the list on the left (Global in English).
  4. Select the appropriate language abbreviation ("en") from the first drop-down menu on the right (called Editor Language in English).

@devs: an upgrade really shouldn't be changing my preferences.

But you didn't have "preferences" here, since previous versions only supported English, so the engine would not even have a setting for the language back then :)

Edit: That being said, when the internationalisation was added I proposed to have the language selectable directly from the project manager, I'll try to push for it a bit more.

Actually, it is ignoring your preferences.

If you are in Steam > Settings > Interface: Select the language you wish Steam to use
you can change the steam language wich will usually be the language that softwares and games will use when downloaded via steam. I know a lot of smaller games that ignore that preference.

also when you right-click on the game in the library
LIBRARY > Preferences... > Language
some games have the option for you to choose the language outside.

I think steam software should be able to:
1. keep your steam preference
2. have the language changable in steam.

those are not too importan features.
but it bugged me that I have to switch the language

Also, I made screenshots of the language changing process, thanks to steevem for sharing his solution.

I believe after 8 years the OP already figured it out. :)
