Godot Engine

Godot Engine

Why would someone use Godot from Steam?
Are there any advantages to getting it from steam, as opposed to godotengine.org?

It's also here on Steam as a means of awareness. A lot of people might not discover Godot were it not on Steam. I'm in agreement that it's better to grab Godot from website though, especially if you need an unchanging, stable build.

I have a version I compiled myself with steamworks that I use for development on my main project, but I use the 'clean' version that's on Steam for making gamejam games.

On MacOS the Steam version of Godot is "codesigned"

Steam has the ability to disable updates or switch to one of the available versions.

How do I activate the Mono stuff? Can I use Visual Studio (which I have installed).

Does the Steam version already support C#?

there kind of isnt but so many people are not in the loop of things, people still use crusty emulators that werent even the best in the first place and dont bat an eye

so people just having it stuck in their face might lead them too it, putting stuff on steam is kind of like advertising

I mainly use Steam so that I have auto update, although there are other ways to get update like from apt and flatpak.

But Godot on apt is still 3.2-stable-2. The flatpak has version 3.2.3 stable, same version as Steam. Another small reason I use Steam because of the time tracking ahaha.

Steam version is awful if you do use low-end nettop with ~32GB SSD because export templates/demos are not marked as DLC and waste your space/bandwidth.

Export templates.
For some reason installing/downloading them from the official source takes several hours.
